2022 Miami GP Recap

Miami proved to be a pretty standard race last time out when the top four qualifiers all finished inside the top four, albeit in a different order.

Ferrari sandwiched the Red Bull with Verstappen taking the race win, then Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished 2nd and 3rd, whilst Sergio Perez ended in 4th, the only one of the four to finish in the position he started.

Both Mercedes ended in the next two positions, 5th and 6th, with Lewis Hamilton qualifying 6th and ending 6th, whilst teammate George Russell started 12th and ended 5th, not a good look for a former 7-time world champion.

Spanish GP Predicts Championship Winner

This race is often seen by many fans and pundits as one of the lesser exciting Formula 1 races because there are not many overtaking opportunities and frankly not much action ever really happens.

The teams visit this track regularly as it is one of the designated “test” tracks that they have been using for years. So essentially, there are no secrets here and every team pretty much knows exactly what strategy they will be using, their cars, best setup, etc.

One thing the track in Barcelona has thought us is that the winner in 18 of the previous 31 races went on the become the eventual world champion and pole position has won 19 of those 31 races.

Race Winner Pick

It’s going to be a battle for 1st between Leclerc and Verstappen again (barring anything crazy), but based on pure driver and car performances these two are the best right now and the proof is in the results with Verstappen having won 3 of the first 5 races this season and Leclerc the other 2.

Both teams are said to be coming with updates this weekend in Spain and it will be Ferrari’s first update package of the season. With that being said it’s unknown whether it will pay off straight away.

Red Bull has been strong in races where tire wear has been an issue and this is most definitely a hard track on the tires. Give us Verstappen at just about plus money here.

Podium Finish Prediction: Lewis Hamilton

Can Hamilton turn it on again at Barcelona as he has won this race 5 years in a row? Yes, admittedly a race win is not expected but a podium finish at +400 might not be the worst bet in the world here. It’s longshot for sure and the betting odds are representable of that.

Hamilton needs to up his game, he is behind his younger teammate in the championship standings and the 7-time champion could be in danger of slipping from the top of the game.

We are happy to take a chance on this play here, but we suggest risking just ½ of a unit if you are using a bankroll. Alternatively, you could risk odds of -300 to take Hamilton for a top 6 finish, it’s a lot of juice so maybe a parlay piece.

Podium Finish Prediction: Sergio Perez

We just about missed out on Perez picking up a podium last time out to cash our plus money both Red Bulls on the podium. With that said, this weekend we love the Mexican’s odds to be placed on the podium at +100.

Perez has finished 4th twice and 2nd twice this season, along with an opening-round DNF effectively. As we said, we expect Red Bull to be the strongest car here and Perez should be strong enough to finish ahead of Carlos Sainz at least. Maybe a cheeky Red Bull 1/2 finish could be on the cards.
