Let’s find the Betting Value in what looks like a one-sided contest
Top-rated sportsbooks and golfing media would have you believe that the Presidents Cup between the United States and International team is a non-event with the United States overwhelming favorite.
There are still a couple of bets that have good value, let’s find them!
2022 Presidents Cup
Thursday, September 22 to Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Quail Hollow Golf Club
Par 71, 7600 yards
The Presidents Cup makes its fourteenth renewal this week in North Carolina at the famous Quail Hollow Golf Club.
The Quail Hollow track is the annual host of the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour in recent years but didn’t hold the event in the current year due to this Presidents Cup hosting.
The course is one of the toughest on the PGA Tour roster and possibly, Tom Fazio’s premier design where length and accuracy are important from the tee combined with an ability to putt well on the Bermuda Grass Greens.
Who made the teams?
There is no doubt, that the golfing media and betting fraternity are reporting this year’s Presidents Cup as a mismatch given the International Team’s defections to LIV Golf appear to have affected their chances more negatively than the United States.

Will the Presidents Cup Be as One-Sided as the Golfing Media Believe?
Yes, we take a view of the United States team, and we see huge strength and it could be argued that the defections of the United States players to LIV Golf of Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed could enhance the United States team spirit.
Certainly, DeChambeau, Koepka and Reed have been divisive characters on the PGA Tour for several years now and their lack of presence must help bring a stronger unified United States Team.
The Betting markets indicate that top-rated sportsbooks and bettors alike believe so with the International Team’s price drifting to +600 from +300 since the defection of Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann and Louis Oosthuizen to name three.
Would Quail Hollow Be the Course of Choice for the United States Players?
I must say, the one factor in the International Teams’ favour in the coming week, is that the players in the United States team don’t excel at Quail Hollow as much as perhaps you would imagine.
Max Homa is the only one on the United States team who has won at Quail Hollow and in fact, there are a couple who avoid putting the Wells Fargo Championship on their schedules. So, that is a slight positive in the favor of the International Team and course, they need all the help they can get.
That’s not to say, that the International Team are completely out of their depth, as Sungjae Im rubs shoulders every week at the highest level and Joohyung (Tom) Kim is one of the most exciting young talents in world golf.
We know Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama are major winners and players of the highest class while Kyoung Hoon Lee and Cameron Davis both won on the recent 2021/2022 PGA Tour schedule.
How Will the Presidents Cup Captains Fare?
Davis Love’s job for the United States looks an easy one, especially now those divisive characters have defected to LIV Golf, and I expect no dramas like in recent team events.
Likewise, I expect former Masters Champion and now Television Golf Pundit, Trevor Immelman to harness a group spirit, after all, that’s the only way to get the players to lift themselves and each other for the week ahead.
There have been rumblings in the media that a couple of their notable players will defect to LIV Golf after, and if that affects the locker room, all chance will have gone for the International Team.
The United States Team Is Unbackable So Where Are the Value Bets This Week?
There are two main markets to use best sportsbooks here at BMR that bet on the match which includes the draw and the “to lift the trophy” market which is a two-way option with the United States is a prohibitive -1000 to lift the Presidents Cup.
With that in mind, we should perhaps look at the Team Scorer markets and perhaps the combined points-scorer markets hold the best value for our selection.
The name that sticks out has to be Max Homa, who we know excels at Quail Hollow, is in superb form after last week’s Fortinet Championship win and is available to be the Top Combined Points Scorer with +1200 at BetOnline.ag.
Golf Pick: Max Homa – Top Combined Points Scorer (+1200) at BetOnline
A One-Sided Presidents Cup Could Mean a Shock Top Points Scorer for the Internationals
It’s feasible that the top points scorer for the International team could win with a very low total if the predictions for an easy United States win are correct.
That has pointed me in the direction of Kyoung Hoon Lee for the International team who has shown previous promise in the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Golf Club.
Combine that with how well the Korean finished off the PGA Tour season by making the top 30 on the FedEx Cup standings after a late charge during the regular year, which had seen him win the Byron Nelson Classic.
Keep stakes modest but have a wager on Kyoung Hoon Lee to be the Top International Team points scorer with BetOnline at +1600.
