Although Charles Leclerc still remains top of the championship standings, defending champion Max Verstappen gained 20 points on him in the previous round in Italy. Formula1 is heading to Miami this weekend where it will be the 2nd American race to be on the schedule in 2022, they are aiming for three American races next season with Las Vegas set to be on the calendar.

Let’s check out what picks we have for the inaugural Miami GP.

Miami Grand Prix

Sunday, May 08, 2022 – 03:30 PM EDT at Miami Grand Prix

Previous Race

Max Verstappen pretty much wiped the board in Ferraris back garden last time out as he qualified on pole, won the sprint race, won the race, and had the fastest lap of the race. Sergio Perez locked up the 2nd position making it a Red Bull 1/2. Has Red Bull started to assert their dominance in the championship?

Another notable note from the previous race is the fact that Lewis Hamilton finished in 13th position, things are looking bleak for Mercedes at this stage of the season as they are a LONG way off the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull. The fact that it was a wet track and there were long straights didn’t help them in the slightest.

Mercedes have been unable to bring car upgrades quick enough this season as they seem to be struggling to understand the car.

New Track, New Problems

The track for this week’s race is a self-build one on the streets of Miami around the Miami Dolphins Hard Rock stadium. The major standout of the track is the fact there are two long straights and plenty of overtaking opportunities should arise as a result of this.

The teams will have done many hours of simulation tests on this track but ultimately the real data will come from driving the track itself, teams have never driven this track so this should make for some interesting strategies and gambles this weekend.

Verstappen bossed everybody in the rain last time out and there is potential for rain again this Sunday.

Double Podium Finish

With this track favoring cars that have fast straight-line speed and fast in the corners, Red Bull should be rightly considered favorite here. They are without a doubt the fastest car on the grid right now and after a 1/2 finish last time we are more than happy to take their doable podium yes odds at +150.

Although they have had some car failures in recent races, they didn’t last time out so we are assuming and hoping they fixed that problem. Verstappen to outright win is also a bet to consider at +100, he will most likely take pole and go off at minus money.

Both Cars Points Finish

Alpine proved to be very strong in the Saudi Arabian race, which has to be said has a similar style track layout to this Miami one. Alpine qualified 5th and 7th in Arabia and both cars could have finished inside the top 10 only Fernando Alonso had to retire due to a water pump issue.

They have cashed this bet in just 1 of 4 races so far this season but given that they had a retirement in two, it’s hard to know where they would have ultimately finished. We predict another strong weekend for the French team.

Top 6 Finish

Australian driver Daniel Riccardo has struggled this season, especially compared to his teammate who is 24 points ahead of him after just four races. A DNF and a collision with Carlos Sainz Jr. last time out have ruined his season so far. He was on course for a top 10 in Saudi Arabia until he eventual DNF.

This is the type of track Riccardo traditionally thrives on and McLaren is arguably the 3rd fastest on the grid right now, and definitely the 4th fastest at least. It’s a bit of a gamble but Riccardo for a top 6 finish at these odds looks enticing.

Formula1 Pick: Daniel Riccardo (+165) at Top Rated Sportsbooks

Top-3 Predictions

  • Max Verstappen
  • Sergio Perez
  • Charles Leclerc
