We crushed our Tuesday’s NHL four-legged parlay at +693 in the playoffs, and we’re back Thursday with four more NHL betting picks from the same two matchups: Rangers vs. Hurricanes and Oilers vs. Flames.

ESPN has Game 5 of this Eastern Conference semifinal series that is tied 2-2 – the winner of the series will be an underdog in the East Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who get to sit back and rest for about a week after sweeping the Florida Panthers.

Below, we’ll break down the NHL odds and share a winning parlay pick!

New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Thursday, May 26, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at PNC Arena

NHL Game 4 Highlights

We hit our four-legged at +693 NHL parlay on Tuesday and our plays in this game were Rangers at -108 to win and under 5.5 goals at -137. New York won 4-1 behind another brilliant effort for sure-fire Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin.

It’s almost hard to recognize the Russian after how shaky he was in Round 1 vs. Pittsburgh. He stopped 73 of 75 shots over the past two games as New York evened the series. Shesterkin has stopped 117 of 122 shots he has faced against the Hurricanes overall, good for a .959 save percentage.

"I'm confident that eventually, they're going to find the back of the net. Maybe as a forward group, we can do a little better to be in his eyes and get to loose pucks out there," Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho said after Game 4. "Dirty goals. You get one of those, you get confidence -- and suddenly, you get all kinds of goals."

NHL Game 5: The Goltenders

Igor Shesterkin is 26-7-3 in 36 combined home appearances this season, with a 1.88 goals-against average, .942 save percentage, and five shutouts. He hasn’t been quite as good on the road overall, which is why we will use an alternate total for Game 5.

Former Rangers netminder Antti Raanta had been just as good as Shesterkin before allowing those four goals on Tuesday. Raanta had gone four straight games giving up two or fewer. The Hurricanes are a strange bunch.

They are winless on the road in these playoffs and have lost each by multiple goals. They are unbeaten at home and Antti Raanta has allowed five goals in six played in Raleigh (he did leave one game early in Round 1, but still).

NHL Game 5 Betting Picks

The Rangers, meanwhile, are 1-4 on the road in the playoffs. There don’t appear to be any major injury updates for NHL Game 5. Blueshirts winger Barclay Goodrow hasn’t played this series due to injury and won’t Thursday but has been skating.

If this were a straight-up bet, I wouldn’t take the alternate total, but because it’s part of a big parlay we will bump it up to 6.5 to avoid a loss at under 5.5 goals on, say, a 4-2 final with the last goal on an empty-net. There haven’t been more than five goals scored in any game yet, I know.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames

Thursday, May 26, 2022 – 09:30 PM EDT at Scotiabank Saddledome

Flames vs. Oilers Playoffs Recap

ESPN has Game 5 of this Western Conference series with Edmonton up 3-1 and poised for a trip to the West Finals. As part of our massive +693 four-leg parlay win Tuesday, we took Oilers -113 in Game 4 and the over alternate 4.5 goals at -380. Edmonton won 5-3, its third straight victory in the series to take command.

The two clear storylines of this series have been the offensive dominance of the Oilers trio of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Evander Kane, and how 40-year-old Edmonton netminder Mike Smith has outperformed Calgary Vezina Trophy finalist Jacob Markstrom, who has given up a few bad goals.

Calgary won the opener 9-6 in a shootout and was leading Game 2 at home 3-1 in the second period. In the regular season, it’s almost a lock that the Flames win that game. However, McDavid scored at 3:05 of the second to start an onslaught as the Oilers won 5-3 and they haven’t looked back since.

Sunday’s Game 3 was never much in doubt as Edmonton won 4-1 at home. In Tuesday’s Game 4, the Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and did lose it, but Ryan Nugent-Hopkins broke the 3-3 tie at 16:33 and Kane scored the clincher 19:35.

NHL Playoffs Leaders

Connor McDavid leads the NHL with 25 playoff points and is only the sixth player to record at least 25 points in a postseason in 11 or fewer games. He has at least two points in seven straight games, one shy of Wayne Gretzky’s playoff record of eight in a row in 1983.

Kane leads the NHL in playoff goals with 12 and has five games with at least two. The only Edmonton player with as many goals in a single postseason over the past 30 years was Fernando Pisani with 14 in 2006. Draisaitl is the first player ever with three or more points in four consecutive postseason games.

Oilers vs. Flames Betting Picks

The one benefit of Calgary being at home is the last line change, and I do think the Flames can win to save their season. Again, though, since this is part of a big parlay.

For our NHL picks, let’s just play Edmonton on the puckline and take a potential overtime result out of the equation. The over 4.5 goals is probably a lock since there have been at least five in each game.
