Sabres vs. Hurricanes Preview

Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo finally seem to have gotten their game to the forefront of the NHL after years of rebuilding and changing things up they are looking like a play-off team, finally.

Buffalo have been on a three-game winning streak including their amazing comeback win against the Pittsburgh Penguins last time out were they trailed 3-1 at the start of the 3rd period but won the game 6-3 with a route towards the end.

The whole team has been contributing to their success, from the two highest scorers with 14 points being defender Rasmus Dahlin and forward Tage Thompson as well as goaltender Craig Anderson who has allowed just 2.8 goals per game.

Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina liked to keep the puck a lot last season and they have retained that strategy again this year as they have kept the puck over 60% of the time in a 5 v 5 situation this season, one of the highest in the league.

The Hurricanes have taken a lot of shots this season (the second highest in the league) and allowed the second least amount per game, a difference of almost 10 per game which is massive in the NHL.

The biggest surprise this season has been the performance of Andrei Svechnikov, who last season scored 69 points in 78 games and he is sure to be on course to beat that having scored 11 points in 10 games so far and their top points scorer Martin Necas who has 14 in 10 has never managed any more than 40 points per season.

Interestingly both only had 5 points in last year’s playoffs despite playing 14 games, one wonders how far they could have went with the improved performances of these players.

Sabres vs. Hurricanes: Picks and Prediction

Buffalo come into this game as the second-highest-scoring team per game with a total of 4.3, as we know Carolina also take a lot of shots on net and we love this game to go over tonight’s total at -110 for over 6.5 goals.

Although we can’t decide which team we believe will win, we are boldly predicting a 3-3 regulation score and either team to take the win in overtime/penalty shootout, but we will gladly cash this over any way we can get it.

Brent Burns (Carolina Hurricanes)

Averaging 4.1 shots per game (the most on the Carolina roster) and one of the new improvements to the team, Brent Burns looks value to see his total shot line over 2.5 at -140.

We don’t mind laying this sort of juice for a player who has seen 3+ shots in 7 of 10 games this season and has gone over this number in 4 of his last 5.

Interestingly 2 of the 3 games he went under 2.5 shots, the Carolina Hurricanes games have been decided in overtime, which we are predicting tonight, let’s hope that trend is put to a stop today.
