The NHL regular season officially began last night in Prague where the Predators claimed a 4-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

The two teams meet again in the Czech Republic today with Nashville priced up at NHL odds of -200 on the moneyline. Can they return to the United States 2-0, or will San Jose tie the series up?

San Jose Sharks vs. Nashville Predators

Saturday, October 10, 2022 – 02:00 PM EDT at O2 Arena

Game Preview

The Predators and San Jose looked very much like two teams who were playing their first game of the regular season last night in what turned out to be an evenly-matched game despite the Predators coming away with a 4-1 win. The difference-maker was Nashville goaltender Juuse Saros, who saved 30 of his 31 shots faced.

San Jose's goaltender also faced 31 shots and allowed 3 goals, with the Predators' final goal being an empty netter. Both teams proved to be very poor with their powerplays going 0-4 each, which is expected at the start of the season.

Nashville has won their previous four games against this Sharks team and we are expecting the Sharks to be one of the worst teams yet again in the NHL this season, so it’s no surprise to see they lost last night by 3 goals and are priced up at +210 on the moneyline tonight.

The Predators have dominated San Jose throughout the four-game winning streak, scoring a total of 16 goals, and only allowing 2, while earning themselves a shutout in a further 2 of the 4 games. It’s going to be an uphill battle for the Sharks throughout this entire season.

Total Betting Analysis and Prediction

Although goaltenders are unconfirmed at the time of writing, we are still very much so leaning towards the under here. We must remember these players are a little bit rusty (as we saw last night). They are also playing far away from home and although they “mean business” it’s hard to do so when you’re in a new location, especially in a city as wonderful as Prague. These teams have been in Europe all week and have done a lot of activities, training, etc.

Back-to-back games can be tiring, especially when you're out of shape or lack fitness, which many of the players likely are, even though they are in much better shape than most of us mere mortals, they are nowhere near their peak fitness and we suspect a few legs may be sore today.

Going 0-8 on the powerplay last night is another small reason why we are liking this under here. We get why the line is 6.0 but having the added advantage of getting a push for the game ending on 6 goals is very enticing given the circumstances.

Most of these players will most likely go through the motions tonight and look to get back home where the real business can start next week.

Given how poor San Jose has been in front of goal lately and the fact they have struggled against this Nashville team, we like the under 2.5 goal prop, on top of the full game under 6.0.

Player Props

Nick Bonino

Former Nashville player Nick Bonino must have been desperate to score one against his former employees, having taken the second most amount of shots for the Sharks in the defeat last night with a total of 4 shots on net.

Although Bonino doesn’t play on either of the top two lines, we do suspect he will stay trigger-happy tonight and we are surprised to see his over 1.5 shots line set at -130, expecting it to be around -140.

Let’s ride with Nick to stay trigger-happy tonight.

NHL Pick: Nick Bonino Over 1.5 Shots (-130) at BetOnline

Nino Niederreiter

Nino started his career with Nashville off with a goal in last night’s game during his first official start for the team.

The former Carolina Hurricanes player is plus-money to pick up at least one point tonight, and given the fact we expect the Predators to score at least 4 times, we are liking his odds a lot at +120.

Last season he produced his best output in six years, accumulating 49 points for Carolina in 89 games played.

NHL Pick: Nino Niederreiter Over 0.5 Points (+120) at BetOnline
