Nashville Predators vs. New York Islanders

Friday, December 2, 2022 – 07:30 PM EST at UBS Arena

The Nashville Predators

The Predators are coming into this back-to-back game having cashed as +250 underdogs last night in a 4-3 road win over the New Jersey Devils.

They are currently sitting with an overall record of 11-9-2 and sit in the fifth position in the Central division. Although they are not far off the second position and they could sneak into the playoffs this season.

Overall the Predators have scored just 2.55 goals per game (the fourth lowest in the league) and allowed 2.86 goals per game (the 11th best). Their biggest issue has been offensive output, it often makes it hard for them to win, but defensively they have been solid at times.

The last time these teams met, Nashville defender Roman Josi had a season-high 4 assists in the game.

The New York Islanders

The Islanders will be glad to be back on home ice having gone 1-4 in their previous 5 road games. Last time out they suffered a 3-1 defeat to an injury-riddled Philadelphia Flyers team, despite being -200 to win the game compared to the Flyers underdogs' NHL odds at +170.

The Islanders have a 15-9-0 overall record this season and are 8-3 on home ice. They have a very strong chance of making the playoffs if they keep this kind of peace up throughout the season. The Islanders are just one point behind second-place Carolina Hurricanes in the division.

Overall this season the Islanders have the fourth-best overall goals-against record at 2.58 and sit just inside the top 14 with 3.25 goals per game.

The Islanders have been a defensive juggernaut for some time now, and they boast one of the best netminders in the league in Ilya Sorokin. He has a 2.18 goals-against record this season, currently the second-best in the league from all the goaltenders who have played 15 games or more.

Picks and Predictions

The Islanders have long been a strong team on home ice, their record speaks for itself. Looking at the Predators' road which is record sitting at 4-6, plus they are on the second night of a back-to-back after winning as underdogs.

This looks like a let-down spot and it's exactly what the sportsbooks think also as they have priced the Islanders at NHL betting odds of -140 to win this matchup tonight. The Predators are available to bet at +140 with some sportsbooks, which seems a little low in our opinion. We were looking for a minimum of +170 for the Predators.

Although Nashville is 8-0 in their previous 8 games against the Islanders, they are on a back-to-back and have gone 1-5 in their previous 6 back-to-backs. We are siding with the Islanders to win this one comfortably by 4 goals to 1 and therefore will be taking the nicely priced +165 for them to cover the -1.5 PK line.

Having picked up 24 assists this season (the second highest in the league) we are liking Mathew Barzal's chances of scoring his eighth multi-point game this season at +150.
