It was a crazy Game 1 of the series with a total of 14 goals scored in an 8-6 victory for the Colorado Avalanche which cashed for us at -1.5 PK line. Let’s check out the NHL pick in store for Game 2 of the series.
Edmonton Oilers vs. Colorado Avalanche
Thursday, June 02, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Ball Arena
Edmonton Oilers Analysis for Today
Mike Smith in the crease for the Oilers has been quite impressive after the Game 1 blowouts. He shut the L.A Kings out in a 6-0 win in Game 2 of the first round, and despite conceding 3 goals in 10 minutes in Game 1 against the Flames (a game in which the Oilers lost 9-6), Smith then went on to beat the Flames four times in a row and allowing only 11 goals in those four games.
The Oilers' offense has been rolling this postseason with 3 of their players ranked inside the top 5 in most points collected.
In fact, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are ranked 1st and 2nd in points and Evander Kane is ranked 1st in goals with a total of 13 scored in 13 games, the second-best being Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon with 9 goals.
Colorado Avalanche Analysis for Today
They might not be putting up the same numbers as the Oilers' top three men but as an overall team, the Avalanche have scored 4.46 goals per game, which is very similar to the Oilers' 4.64 goals per game.
Colorado has been averaging just over 40 shots in these playoffs and that’s going to be hard for most teams to stop. They have most definitely stepped up their game this postseason.
Darcy Kuemper's Injury
However, the Avalanche do have a goaltender concern in Darcy Kuemper who pulled himself from the first game win after allowing 3 goals on 16 shots. Kuemper is questionable to start game two having suffered an upper-body injury.
Kuemper hasn’t been exactly at his best these playoffs having had a less than .900 save percentage and allowed an average of 2.65 goals per game.
The thing is the Avalanche have been so good and decisive that they haven’t needed their goaltending to be on point, the outfield players have proved they can carry the torch for any defensive hiccups.

NHL Betting Odds and Current Lines
The top sportsbooks saw enough in Game 1 to set the Oilers as underdogs for the second game in a row at +155 on the moneyline. The Avalanche are as low as -185.
After we witnessed 14 goals in the opening game of the series, tonight’s game has been set at 7.0 with the Over coming in at +120 and the Under as low as -135.
Colorado covered the -1.5 PK line in Game 1 at +130 and they are the exact same NHL odds to do so again tonight. If you think the Oilers cover the +1.5 PK line, they are priced up at -155.
Oilers vs. Avalanche: Betting Pick and Prediction
Our favorite pick for this matchup is easily the Avalanche Over 3.5 team total goals. The only reason we are not making it the pick for today’s game is that the sportsbooks have bumped the line up to 4.5 meaning we are only getting over 3.5 Colorado goals for -200. A nice parlay builder, but too low to bet at those odds as a single play.
Although we believe the Avalanche can score 5 goals here, it’s still a very high team total line, we are not crazy about their team total line set at 4.5 for +120.
How to Bet Oilers vs. Avalanche
We are taking the Avalanche to win and Over 5.5 goals for the same odds as their team total. We see goals in this one and the Avalanche were like a hot knife through butter in Game 1. We expect game two to be similar. At least by taking this approach we are covered for a 4-3 / 4-2 Avalanche win.
The obvious bet here is also to play the Over 7.0. Again, it’s a bet we love, but the line is so high it does make us question whether or not it’s the right play. We do have the Avalanche down to win 5-2 but in reality, this could be another 8-6.
Score Prediction: Edmonton Oilers 2 - Colorado Avalanche 5
