We love Thursday NHL as it always presents us with a big card and plenty of games to choose from. Although there were a lot of enticing games on the board, here are the ones that stood out the most for our NHL player prop picks.
- Overall NHL record for the season: 23-12
Washington Capitals vs. Detroit Red Wings
Thursday, November 3, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Little Caesars Arena
Anthony Mantha (Washington Capitals)
- Under 1.5 Shots
Although this is a 1.5 shot line, don’t be scared. Washington player Anthony Mantha has not been shooting a whole lot this season and has seen 2+ shots in just 3 of his 11 games played.
Funny enough, in all three games he went over 1.5 shots he also hit his alternative over 2.5 shot line. Going back to last season, Mantha had just 82 shots in 37 games played, a little over 2.2 per game.
This is a play that could be dead in the water after 10 minutes of gameplay, but at +140, we believe there to be value here down to as low as +120.
Dominik Kubalik (Detroit Red Wings)
- Over 0.5 Points
Detroit Red Wings' new acquisition Dominik Kubalik is on course for his best year in the NHL to date if he keeps up these numbers. The 191st pick in 2013 is enjoying his 4th full season in the NHL in 2022 having played the first three with close neighbors Chicago.
Kubalik averaged a point every 1.47 games in both his first and second seasons (a little strange he had exactly the same averages in both years). During his final season for the Chicago Blackhawks, he slumped a little with his average for a point per game going up to 2.43, although it didn’t help that it was also Chicago’s worst season since he had started playing regularly.
This season winger Kubalik has been averaging a point once every 0.81 games, only failing to score a point in 3 of his 9 games.
You know one of our favorite strategies for NHL picks is to target players who have strong stats overall but failed to hit their total over in the previous game. Kubalik falls into this category as he failed to score a single point last time out on the ice.
Los Angeles Kings vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Thursday, November 3, 2022 – 08:30 PM EDT at United Center
Trevor Moore (Los Angeles Kings)
- Over 2.5 Shots
Trevor Moore continues to be disrespected on his total shot line by the best sportsbooks despite being the L.A Kings' highest shot taker so far this season with 39 shots in 12 games played.
The Kings have been taking a lot of shots this year as they have accumulated the second-most amount of shots in the entire NHL. Furthermore, the Blackhawks have allowed the 4th most amount of shots against per game.
Moore has hit 3+ shots in 8 of his 12 games played this season (and ended with 2 shots during the four games he went under). His shot line over 2.5 odds should be in around -130, so we are more than happy to get on his total to go over 2.5 at -120 for some small value.
NHL Prop Pick: Over 2.5 Shots (-120) at BetOnline
Florida Panthers vs. San Jose Sharks
Thursday, November 3, 2022 - 10:30 PM EDT at SAP Center
Matthew Tkachuk (Florida Panthers)
- Over 1.5 Points
Taking a look at another bounce-back spot, we are loving Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk to see 2+ points in tonight’s game at +160 after he failed to score any in the previous game for just the second time in ten.
Tkachuk has been on fire since joining the Florida Panthers from Calgary Flames this off-season and is the team’s top points scorer with 13 points scored in 10 games (five more than the second-best Colin White).
Admittedly, if Florida is going to achieve great things this season, they will need some of their best players besides Tkachuk to step up to the mark. Tkachuk has averaged 5 shots per game and is also the team’s top assist maker and goalscorer.
We are heavy on Tkachuk putting up some points tonight against this San Jose team.
