Sunday’s NHL card looks great and we are loving some of the matchups in-store today.

We expect plenty of goals in both of our chosen games today with the Minnesota Wild visiting the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto seeking their first win in four games tonight as they face the Anaheim Ducks. We also expect William Nylander to get back on the scoreboard in this latter game.

Our current NHL article record for the season now sits at 14-9, let’s hope to add some more winners than losers with our NHL picks this fine Sunday hockey card.

Minnesota Wild vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Sunday, October 30, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at United Center

Mats Zuccarello (Minnesota Wild)

  • Over/Under 2.5 Shots

We like the Wild to get a lot of shots on the net tonight against this Blackhawks team, who have allowed the 4th most amount of shots on net for any team to play 8 or fewer games so far. Mats Zuccarello represents the best value on this Wild team for his shot line to go over his total which is set at 2.5, laying -124 juice to the over.

Picking Up Points

Zuccarello has been one of the best players thus far in the entire NHL this season having picked up 12 points from 8 games and has averaged 3.9 shots per game across the entire season, we are more than happy to lay this juice considering the facts.

We also like the fact Zuccarello only had 2 shots last time out during the Wilds' 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, for a player who averages 3.9 shots per game we suspect he will get his shooting gloves on tonight, Zuccarello has seen 3 or more shots in 6 of his 8 games.

Seth Jones (Chicago Blackhawks)

  • Over/Under 2.5 Shots

The Chicago Blackhawks have recently slumped into back-to-back losses. Following a promising 4-0 run, their overall record is now 4-3-1 on the season (which for now has them ahead of current Stanley Cup champions the Colorado Avalanche).

We believe there to be value on Blackhawks defender Seth Jones to see 3 or more shots in tonight’s game at +100. Despite starting off the season with just 3 total shots in his first three games, Jones has since taken an average of 3.9 shots per game and seen his total hit over 2.5 shots in 4 of his past five games.

Regression might be expected but at +100 and facing this Minnesota Wild team on home ice we believe Jones can get a few shots on net.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Anaheim Ducks

Sunday, October 30, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Honda Center

William Nylander (Toronto Maple Leafs)

  • Will Score At Any Time

For those who love anytime goalscorer plays expect some more in the future as we get further into the season. At the start of each year we like to pick and choose our spots as we like to see who’s firing hot (Connor McDavid - 9 goals in 9 games) and who’s running cold (Auston Matthews - 2 goals in 9 games).

Toronto Maple Leafs center, William Nylander, had 34 goals last season. Thus far this season he has managed 4 goals, which is actually tied for first place with John Tavares for the most goals on this Maple Leafs team.

On the Road

Although playing on the road, we like the Maple Leafs to put up some goals tonight against the second-worst team for keeping goals out of the net, as the Anaheim Ducks have allowed an average of 4.38 goals per game and have also allowed 299 shots in just 8 games.

It’s not been a good trip to California/Vegas for the Maple Leafs having lost the previous 3 games to the:

  • San Jose Sharks
  • L.A. Kings
  • Vegas Golden Knights

Also, Nylander has scored a goal in each of his last three matchups against the Anaheim Ducks.

Troy Terry (Toronto Maple Leafs)

  • Over/Under 0.5 Points

Anaheim Ducks have been struggling this year having gone 1-6-1 so far, but the one shining light has been forward Troy Terry, who is the top scorer for the Ducks with 9 points (4 more than second-best Frank Vatrano).

Terry has scored 4 goals and assisted 5 on the season but has only scored points in 2 of his past 5 games. However, his record on home ice is 100% on the season and partly the reason the Ducks have done so badly is probably that they have only played two home games of their eight in total.

We are laying the juice and taking Terry to see at least one point tonight at -140. If you can find an alternate line for over 1.5 points at +150 or better we also take that approach.
