Three games take place on Halloween night across the NHL, and we have made a play in all three. Last night’s NHL picks went 1-2-1 for a small loss overall.
Let’s hope for a 3-0 night as the Buffalo Sabres play host to Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes face the Washington Capitals, and the late kick-off sees the LA Kings travel to St. Louis.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Buffalo Sabres
Monday, October 31, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at KeyBank Center
Sabres Prop Bet: Tage Thompson
- Over 2.5 Shots
Buffalo Sabres winger Tage Thompson has been the team's overall shot leader so far this season with an average of 3.8 shots per game and has cleared the Over 2.5 shots total in his previous three games and four of the past five.
Yes, he did have a slow start to the season going Under 2.5 shots in his first three games, but in all those games he did have two shots minimum and has only seen less than 2 shots on one occasion this season, which also coincided with his second least amount of minutes played this season having played 15 compared to his regular 18/19 minutes per game.
Thompson only played 14 minutes last time out and took 8 shots, we expect him to get more minutes tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. Thompson hit 5 shots in both home games against the Red Wings last season.
Going back to last season, Thompson averaged 3.24 shots per game and since he became a top-line player, he has never averaged under 3 shots throughout the season. Expect Thompson and Buffalo to stay hot.
Washington Capitals vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Monday, October 31, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at PNC Arena
Hurricanes Prop Bet: Brent Burns
- Over 0.5 Assists
37-year-old veteran Brent Burns has been cashing props for us since we began player prop articles all those years ago. We are riding with the veteran here tonight to get an assist on the board at some nice plus-money NHL odds of +110.
This is a tight matchup for the Carolina Hurricanes and this could be a low-scoring affair as both teams have been relatively solid defensively this season and are within the top 8 ranked goals against per game.
That said, we believe this is exactly the sort of game where Brent Burns can step up and find somebody open in the slot or even take a pop shot himself; Burns is currently +450 to score anytime at Everygame (visit our Everygame Review).
Carolina will get chances on home ice and Burns to score just 1 point (goal or assist) is coming in at -114 with BetOnline, which is a safer play overall, but for us, the value lies in the plus money for an assist.
NHL Prop Pick: Over 0.5 Assists (+110) at BetOnline
Los Angeles Kings vs. St. Louis Blues
Monday, October 31, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Enterprise Center
Kings Prop Bet: Trevor Moore
- Over 2.5 Shots
Although the odds we are getting are very fair at -110 for the LA Kings' Trevor Moore to see 3+ shots in tonight’s game, we still like this bet a lot but would believe -120 is the lowest you should bet this to as far as value goes.
Moore has been shooting solid numbers this season and has averaged 3.1 shots per game and has cleared his Over 2.5 line on 6 of 10 occasions this season.
What we like most about this play is the fact Moore has rarely gone back-to-back nights this season going under the 2.5 shot total. In fact, he is yet to go back-to-back nights without seeing three or more shots.
Moore has taken 3/2/6/4/2/3/2/4/3/2 each game and only had two shots last time out in the Kings' 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. We believe he will be keen to get some shots on net tonight, especially since just scoring his first goal of the season in a 6-4 loss to the Winnipeg Jets might give him a taste for more.
