Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals
Thursday, January 26, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at Capital One Arena
Preview
The Pittsburgh Penguins are 24-15-8 overall this season, currently sitting just inside the playoff zone in 8th place in the Eastern Conference. The 9th-placed team is their opponent today, the Washington Capitals.
Both teams are level with 56 points BUT the Penguins have played three games less, so a win here would give them a nig advantage. Although the Penguins have only won 50% of their previous 10 games, the management will see that as a positive at least because prior to that they had gone 0-6.
It’s been a poor run of form for the Capitals having now won just two of their previous seven NHL games and just 2 of their previous 7 on home ice. Washington is on a 0-2 losing streak and is banged up with no John Carlson available and T.J. Oshie is questionable.
The Pick
Right now the Penguins are the better of these two teams, at +100 we believe there to be some value here with the road team. The Penguins have been extremely strong in their previous 10 trips to the Capital One Arena having won 70% of their games.
Don’t let the Capitals' 4 wins in 10 games fool you either, as bad as that stat is alone, it's worse when we realize 2 of those 4 came against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the other was against Arizona and the fourth was a victory over the New York Islanders. Not one of these wins is something to write home about.
Give us the Penguins at plus money to steal an away win tonight.

New Jersey Devils vs. Nashville Predators
Thursday, January 26, 2023 – 08:00 PM EST at Bridgestone Arena
Preview
The Devils have been one of the best teams this season, they generate a high number of dangerous chances, as well as having the third-highest xG rating in the league. For context, despite being fourth overall in the Eastern Conference, they would be positioned in the first place had they been in the much weaker Western Conference.
The Devils score the most goals per game and allow the fourth least, last time out they beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 and have won 8 of their previous 10 NHL games.
Looking at the home team Nashville, they have been in solid form in recent games winning 4 of their previous 5. The Predators are all defense and not much offense as they register just 2.72 goals per game, which is the fourth lowest in the league. Defensively they have allowed the ninth least amount of goals.
The Predators' recent winning streak has seen them slip back in with a chance of making this year’s playoffs.
The Pick
Two of the better teams defensively take the ice in this matchup and we believe under 6.5 goals at -110 betting odds is a solid NHL pick in this one. Although we are opposing some trends here which has seen 7+ goals in 3 of the previous 5 meetings.
We are extremely surprised to see today’s total line set at 6.5 and not 6.0, the Predators at home have seen 73% of their games go under 6.5 goals and the Devils on the road are 63% in favour of the under.
Both played last night with scores ending 2-1 and 3-2, we are predicting something similar for tonight’s game.
NHL Pick: Under 6.5 (-110) at BetOnline
Buffalo Sabres vs. Winnipeg Jets
Thursday, January 26, 2023 – 08:00 PM EST at Canada Life Centre
Preview
The Winnipeg Jets are second in the Western Conference right now and a win here tonight could see them go tied for first with the Stars. With that said the Jets come into this home game a little under the weather having lost 3 of their previous 5, only beating the Flyers and Senators (two of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference). The Jets have the fifth-best defense in the NHL allowing only 2.61 goals per game.
Looking at the Buffalo Sabres, they have strung a few wins together having won four of their previous five having lost 4 of their previous 5 prior to that. Buffalo is a very unpredictable team from day to day, but their road form has been much better than their home form, winning 68% of their games on the road this season.
The Pick
We rarely take a team to cover the +1.5 PK line but we are taking that approach here as we believe the Buffalo Sabres can cover this spread on the road tonight.
Yes, the Winnipeg Jets have won 73% of their home games, but the Sabres have covered the +1.5 spread in 9 of their previous 10 road games as well as 5 of the previous 7 trips to Winnipeg. Both teams are playing strong hockey right now and this could be a tie game come to the end of regulation, which would suit us just fine.
New Yorkers can bet this Sabres pick or the parlay at any of these New York betting sites.
NHL Pick: Sabres +1.5 (-135) at BetOnline
