Detroit Red Wings vs. Ottawa Senators
Monday, February 27, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at Canadian Tire Centre
This is not a game you will circle on your calendar but it’s light years ahead of the later game in which two of the league’s cellar-dwellers compete for the Toilet Bowl when the Blackhawks take on the Ducks.
And yes, we have an opinion on that game so read on.
The Red Wings are actually playing very good hockey recently, having won seven of their last nine contests, with the most recent being a 3-0 shutout loss to the talented Lightning on Saturday.
Conversely, the Senators have dropped three of their last five games but one of those two wins came on Saturday when they defeated the Canadiens, 5-2, in Montreal.
These teams have split the season series with the Senators claiming a 6-3 victory over the Red Wings on December 17th but Detroit would exact its revenge on New Year’s Eve when they skated to a 4-2 victory in Detroit.
And although they will leave the Motor City to play two back-to-backs in Ottawa, we should note that the Wings were perfectly comfortable winning in hostile environments as evidenced by them winning four of five on their most recent road trip with their only loss coming via the high-scoring Kraken in a 4-2 setback.
If we look at the stats above, everything is about equal but we can see that Ottawa holds a substantial edge on special teams.
However, the way Detroit has turned it around recently, I like them as a live road dog here.

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche
Monday, February 27, 2023 - 09:00 PM EST at Ball Arena
The Knights have a tenuous grasp on the top spot in the Pacific Division but they will get a chance to put a little bit of daylight between themselves and the second-place Kings if they can defeat the Avalanche on Monday night.
After winning five straight, Vegas has dropped two of its last three including their most recent, a 3-2 shootout loss to the Stars on Saturday. But the Knights’ offense has picked up the pace and tempo of their game, averaging four goals per game over their last eight contests.
It’s not all that surprising that the Avs are a fairly big favorite in this matchup, having won five consecutive games and enjoying the home-ice advantage.
Yet, these clubs are similar and have split the season series with Colorado securing a 3-2 victory in Sin City back in October while the Knights got their revenge in early January by winning by an identical 3-2 score in Mile High.
The venue is the same as that last outing and I like the way the Knights’ offense has picked up over the last few weeks. I think this a good spot to grab the better team and get paid the vig for doing so.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Anaheim Ducks
Monday, February 27, 2023 - 10:00 PM EST at Honda Center
This will be like the audience at a Little League game – only family members will be watching. Well, in this case, it will be fans of either team who will be exclusively watching except for a few handicappers who believe they have a betting edge.
That’s where we come in because the Blackhawks are a pretty good bet on Monday night and here are a few reasons why.
Chicago had defeated Anaheim in eight consecutive games, including a 3-2 win over the Ducks in November. However, that streak was broken on February 7th when the Ducks topped the Hawks, 3-2, in overtime.
Let’s take a look at the team trends heading into this one.
Team Trends
- The Blackhawks are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win.
- The Blackhawks are 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on one day’s rest.
- The Blackhawks are 8-1 in the last 9 meetings.
- The Blackhawks are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Anaheim.
