Today we have our top NHL picks for moneyline, puck line, and total bettors working on a Thursday night slate of NHL action. In our first of three, we will bet on two anemic offenses staying true to form as we look to go Under in the Red Wings/Canadiens game.

Let’s check out the NHL odds and sweep the board on Thursday night!

Detroit Red Wings vs. Montreal Canadiens

Thursday, January 26, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at Bell Centre

The Total Pick

The Under has cashed in Detroit’s last three games including their 3-2 overtime victory over the Sharks on Tuesday. Over the Wings’ last 6 games, they have scored an average of 2.6 goals per game and we should also take note of the fact that the Under has cashed in the last 4 meetings between these clubs including both games this year.

In those two contests, Detroit claimed a 3-0 victory in October, and Montreal secured a 3-2 shootout win in November.

As for the hapless Habs, they have been on a bit of a roll lately, having won 5 of their last 10 games which is about as good as it gets for Montreal fans this season. And in those 10 contests, the Under is 6-3-1, with that lone push occurring in their last game when they fell 4-2 to the powerhouse Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.

  • Under is 4-0 in the Red Wings' last 4 vs. Atlantic.
  • Under is 6-1 in the Red Wings’ last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.
  • Under is 6-1 in the Red Wings' last 7 vs. Eastern Conference.
  • Under is 4-1-1 in the Canadiens’ last 6 overall.
  • Under is 4-1 in the Canadiens’ last 5 games playing on 1 day’s rest.
  • Under is 4-1-1 in the Canadiens’ last 6 vs. Eastern Conference.
  • Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these clubs.

New Jersey Devils vs. Nashville Predators

Thursday, January 26, 2023 - 08:00 PM EST at Bridgestone Arena

The Moneyline Pick

The Devils are back on track after a nearly month-long skid in which they went 3-10 before righting the ship on January 7th when they defeated the Rangers, 4-3, in overtime. And from that time New Jersey has gone 7-1 including a victory in their most recent effort, a 3-2 overtime win over the Golden Knights at Madison Square Garden.

Nashville has won 4 of their last 5 contests with their latest performance, a 2-1 win over Winnipeg on Tuesday night, pushing them to within a point of the Central Division-leading Dallas Stars. In those 4 wins, Nashville’s opponents averaged just 1.5 goals per game.

There are two reasons why the Predators are the play here. First and foremost, the Devils’ last four games have all gone into overtime, one of which was settled in the shootout round. That’s an awful lot of extra hockey for a team that last played on Tuesday night and then had to hop a plane and travel to the Music City.

Lastly, based on the way head coach, John Hynes, has been platooning his goalies it appears as though Nashville’s goaltending chores may fall to backup, Mackenzie Blackwood, whose stat line of 6-3-2/3.04 GAA/.896 save percentage pales in comparison to the starter, Vitek Vanecek, who boasts the following: 20-5-2/2.30 GAA/9.16 save percentage.

Oh, and one last, last thing. The Predators are 7-0 over their last seven meetings against the Devils.

Predicted Score: Predators 3 - Devils 2

Anaheim Ducks vs. Colorado Avalanche

Thursday, January 26, 2023 - 09:00 PM EST at Ball Arena

The Puck Line Pick

The Avs are far from a juggernaut at home as evidenced by their 12-8-3 mark at Ball Arena. However, the team they are facing has made us money throughout the season because they are just that bad. That’s right, we’re talking about the Anaheim Ducks, a team that owns one of the worst records in the league at 14-29-5 and are exceptionally bad on the road as they enter with a 6-16-4 record on the highway.

But here is something you should know. The Avs are 7-0 versus the Ducks over their last 7 contests and have won all of them by 2 goals or more. Although Colorado has struggled at times this season, they are far and away the better squad in this one and there is nothing to suggest that Anaheim will get lucky on Thursday night.

Can it happen? Of course, but it’s unlikely and if there is one team on tonight’s slate that is poised to cover on the puck line, it’s Colorado.

Predicted Score: Avalanche 5 - Ducks 1
