The Lightning will get a cupcake skating into their barn on Tuesday night and it’s an ideal spot for them to get well after losing their last pair. Let’s review the NHL odds in this contest as well as two more of our best bets and keep cashing our NHL picks

Anaheim Ducks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Tuesday, February 21, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at Amalie Arena

Key Stats

Anaheim Ducks

  • Offense: 32nd
  • Defense: 32nd
  • Shots on Goal: 26th
  • Power Play: 32nd
  • Penalty Killing: 29th

Tampa Bay Lightning

  • Offense: 5th
  • Defense: 13th
  • Shots on Goal: 14th
  • Power Play: 5th
  • Penalty Killing: 12th

Anaheim can’t buy a win and is now mired in the muck of the NHL basement with 40 lonely points as they prepare to take on the high-flying Tampa Bay offense. The Ducks have dropped their last four games with the most recent being a 6-3 loss to the Kings in Anaheim.

Tampa Bay has also been struggling a bit as of late and dropped a 1-0 shootout decision to the lackluster Arizona Coyotes in the desert followed by a 5-4 loss to the Golden Knights in Sin City. However, if there are two things that will help the Lightning shake free of their slump it’s returning home where they are 21-4-2 and welcoming the dreadful Ducks into their building.

This one should be over early as the Ducks have outscored 26-11 over their last four losses, with each loss by a three-goal margin or more. This is a team that ranks dead last in offense and defense, playing against a squad that is desperate to pull out of their recent funk and will do it in impressive fashion. Lay it and like it with the Bolts.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Buffalo Sabres

Tuesday, February 21, 2023 - 07:30 PM EST at KeyBank Center

Key Stats

Toronto Maple Leafs

  • Offense: 8th
  • Defense: 6th
  • Shots on Goal: 13th
  • Power Play: 4th
  • Penalty Killing: 11th

Buffalo Sabres

  • Offense: 3rd
  • Defense: 24th
  • Shots on Goal: 12th
  • Power Play: 6th
  • Penalty Killing: 30th

The scheduling gods smiled upon the Maple Leafs by giving them three of the four last-place teams to play over their last four games. The only team missing was the Pacific Division cellar-dwellers, the Anaheim Ducks, but games against the Blue Jackets, Canadiens and two against the Blackhawks should have been an easy sweep.

However, true to form, the Leafs refused to take the gift the league was giving them and instead squandered two of those four opportunities with a 4-3 home loss to Columbus and a 5-3 road loss to Chicago as -356 and -310 favorites, respectively

Although the Sabres lost their only meeting with the Maple Leafs earlier this season, a 5-2 setback in Toronto, I am more than willing to roll the dice with the home team that has won their last two games, will be returning home after a three-game road trip, and is getting +134 against a team that is just 12-13 on the moneyline away from home.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Nashville Predators

Tuesday, February 21, 2023 - 08:00 PM EST at Bridgestone Arena

Key Stats

Vancouver Canucks

  • Offense: 10th
  • Defense: 31st
  • Shots on Goal: 21st
  • Power Play: 11th
  • Penalty Killing: 32nd

Nashville Predators

  • Offense: 26th
  • Defense: 14th
  • Shots on Goal: 20th
  • Power Play: 28th
  • Penalty Killing: 16th

Trust me when I tell you I know it’s hard to bet on the Predators, as the only thing predatory about this team is the way they kill your bankroll. However, the flip side would be betting your hard-earned money on the woeful Canucks. In today’s NHL, there has to be a winner and I cannot envision a scenario in which Vancouver skates away from the Music City with a win in the bank.

While it is true that the Preds own a rather anemic offense, the Canucks defense can’t stop a nosebleed. Yes, they have some skill on offense but Nashville owns a decent enough defense to control the pace and tempo of the game when the puck enters their zone. These teams have met only once before this season, a 4-3 shootout victory by the Predators in hostile territory.

I predict a lower-scoring game than that, but I am not leaning nearly as heavily on the total as I am laying it on the moneyline with the Preds in this instance. If you’re looking for courage, take a gander at these trends favoring Nashville.

Team Trends

  • Canucks are 2-10 in their last 12 road games
  • Canucks are 0-4 in their last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game
  • Canucks are 0-4 in their last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game
  • Canucks are 0-6 in their last 6 games following a win
  • Predators are 37-16 in their last 53 vs. a team with a winning % below .400
