Vegas Golden Knights vs. Washington Capitals

Tuesday, November 1, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Capital One Arena

If there is going to be an upset tonight it will happen in D.C. The Capitals are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Hurricanes in Carolina last night. They must now schlep back home to meet the Golden Knights in the 2nd of back-to-backs. Thus, the best sportsbooks have made the Caps substantial home dogs against arguably the best team in the league.

Under ordinary circumstances, this would be a much smaller line but we have a confluence of events that are giving us tremendous value on a very good team at home. The last 3 meetings between these teams (none this season) have gone in Vegas’s favor, but all were decided by a one-goal margin.

Puck luck has been in the Knights’ favor when facing the Caps, but the Knights are not an offensive powerhouse this season, ranked No. 14 in goals per game averaging 3.2 goals per game, and rely on their stout defense.

Prediction and Pick

The Caps will be happy to be home after a 4-game road trip in which they went 2-2 and will skate onto familiar ice tonight where they are 3-1 at the Capital One Arena. Let’s look for number 4 at a big price and make some money tonight!

Predicted Score: Capitals 4 - Knights 3

Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Rangers

Tuesday, November 1, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Madison Square Garden

The Rangers have won 4 of their last 5 meetings against the Flyers and I suspect that streak will continue after tonight. After enduring a 4-game skid the Blueshirts have won their last 2 games, road victories over the Stars and Coyotes. They will be back on home ice tonight to face their divisional rivals from Philadelphia for the 1st time this season.

The Flyers have been yielding an inordinate amount of shots this season, allowing the opposition an average of nearly 36 shots per game (30th). But the interesting part of the equation is they are ranked No. 5 in goals allowed.

Prediction and Pick

That is an unsustainable ratio and when factoring in the Rangers' No. 5 shots on goal metric, as well as having the best goalie on the planet, Igor Shesterkin, patrolling the crease, this has all the makings of a lopsided win for the New Yorkers on Tuesday night.

Predicted Score: Rangers 4 - Flyers 1

Boston Bruins vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Tuesday, November 1, 2022 - 08:00 PM EDT at PPG Paints Arena

The Bruins skate into Pittsburgh with the best record in the league and a defense that seems to be getting better as the season grows. Linus Ullmark has been nothing short of sensational, checking in with a 6-0 mark, a 1.70 GAA, and a .945 save percentage. He has had 3 days to rest and prep for this meeting, as has the rest of the team, with the Penguins and they should be tight tonight.

Pittsburgh’s goaltending tandem of Tristan Jarry (tonight’s likely starter) and Casey DeSmith have been victimized by poor play in their own zone but their stats are by no means abysmal. Jarry enters with a .915 save percentage despite his 3.02 goals against average and has shown flashes of brilliance.

The Bruins’ offense has been clicking on all cylinders while the Penguins have struggled to put the puck in the net. This has all the markings of a low-scoring game. Boston will eventually cool down and they have often struggled in Pittsburgh while the Pens don’t have enough firepower to crack the code that has been Linus Ullmark.

Their offense has scored a total of 6 goals over their last 4 games and that issue won’t get better against a goalie like Ullmark and the kind of defense Boston boasts.

Total Trends

  • Under is 3-0-1 in the Bruins’ last 4 vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these teams in Pittsburgh.
  • Under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings between these teams overall.

The total across all of the major offshore shops is showing 6.5, but I can see there is a glimmer of wise guy action as Heritage Sports is the first to drop to 6 as of this Tuesday morning writing.

Prediction and Pick

The masses will be betting Over on this game because the Bruins have been hot and the Pens are known as a goal-scoring team. But the B’s will cool off tonight while the Penguins have been offensively chilled over their last 4 games.

Go low and cash a ticket tonight!

Predicted Score: Bruins 3 - Penguins 1
