New York Islanders vs. St. Louis Blues

Thursday, November 3, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Enterprise Center

After dropping 3 straight, the Islanders have caught fire and will be gunning for their 5th consecutive win as they skate into St. Louis on Thursday night. They have outscored their opposition 17-7 during their 4-game winning streak including a 5-4 victory over the powerhouse Colorado Avalanche.

The Blues are mired in the muck of the Central Division after dropping their last 5 contests and getting outscored 25-8 over that span. Their most recent performance ended in a 5-1 loss to the Kings at home despite only being outshot 30-28. St. Louis cannot seem to get on track and the defense has been lackluster, to say the least.

New York goalie, Ilya Sorokin, has played extremely well in the early going and we can expect to see him and his 2.04 GAA and .935 save percentage patrolling the crease on Thursday night.

The Moneyline Pick

These are two teams headed in polar opposite directions and we will put our money on the team riding in the right direction.

Predicted Score: Islanders 4 - Blues 2

Seattle Kraken vs. Minnesota Wild

Thursday, November 3, 2022 - 08:00 PM EDT at Xcel Energy Center

Seattle has now won 3 of 4 and is coming off a 5-4 win over the Flames on Tuesday night. The Kraken is averaging 3.5 goals per game placing them 10th in the NHL and they will be facing the 26th-ranked defense of the Minnesota Wild, allowing 3.6 goals per game.

If we flip the script, we see Minnesota averaging 3.4 goals per game (11th) against a Kraken defense that is allowing 3.5 goals per game which places them 22nd in that category.

What we should also recognize is that both of these teams are superior on the power play yet equally bad killing penalties. Consider that Seattle is ranked 7th on the power play connecting on 26.8 percent of their opportunities while Minnesota boasts the 4th ranked power play, striking gold on 27.8 percent of their chances.

And what could very well enhance their chances of lighting the lamp in man-advantage situations is the 24th and 29th-ranked penalty-killing units of Minnesota and Seattle, respectively.

Total Trends

  • Over is 6-0 in the Kraken's last 6 games following a win.
  • Over is 5-1-1 in the Kraken's last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
  • Over is 4-0 in the Wild’s last 4 vs. Western Conference.
  • Over is 5-1 in the Wild's last 6 vs. Pacific.

Predicted Score: Wild 5 - Kraken 3

Los Angeles Kings vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Thursday, November 3, 2022 - 08:30 PM EDT at United Center

The Kings wrap up a 3-game road trip with a stop at the United Center to meet the Blackhawks on Thursday night. After an impressive 5-1 win over the Blues in St. Louis, the Kings had to hop a plane to Dallas to face off against the Stars in the second of back-to-back games.

Understandably gassed, LA dropped a 5-2 decision and had Wednesday night to catch their breath before heading to the Windy City to take on the Hawks tonight.

Chicago is in the midst of a 4-game losing streak but to their credit, they have been competitive in every contest. The Blackhawks dropped a 6-5 decision to the Oilers followed by a 4-3 overtime loss to Buffalo before suffering a 4-3 defeat to the Wild. And in their last appearance, they fell 3-1 to the Islanders at home.

Why the Kings?

Although both teams check in with a .500 record, this is a good spot to lay the 1.5 goals on the better team and get a big price for doing so. And in this case, we are going to ride the Kings in this one and there are a few reasons why.

First, the last 2 meetings between these teams last April saw LA topple the Hawks 5-2 followed by a 4-1 victory a few weeks later. And although a case can certainly be made that Chicago has improved since last season, I don’t believe they can skate with the Kings and keep pace if LA is on their game.

Second, there’s an old saying in hockey, you can’t score if you don’t shoot, and that’s been a bone of contention for Chicago, currently ranked 31st of 32 teams in shots on goal averaging just 25.7 shots per game. We should also note that the Kings are averaging 3.5 goals per game placing them 8th in the league versus the Hawks’ 20th-ranked defense.

The Puck Line Pick

If we take a look at what the best sportsbooks are dealing for those bold enough to bet the visitors on the puck line, it’s a shot worth taking.

Predicted Score: Kings 5 - Blackhawks 2
