Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins

Thursday, November 17, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at TD Garden

I’m not sure how long this ride will last, but right now the Bruins' money train shows no signs of slowing down. Entering this Thursday night matchup with the Flyers, the B’s are 14-2 and set a franchise record with their ninth consecutive home-ice win when they defeated the Canucks, 5-2, on Sunday. And speaking of Sunday, we should also keep in mind Boston has had the luxury of resting their bones since then in anticipation of their date with the struggling Flyers.

Philadelphia is hoping to snap a four-game losing streak, but doing it at the TD Garden won’t be easy. In their last performance, the Flyers dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Blue Jackets in Columbus. The last time Philadelphia won a game was back on November 8th when they defeated another struggling team, the St. Louis Blues, by the score of 5-1.

This is a statistical mismatch considering the 31st-ranked offense of the Flyers will be facing Boston’s No. 1-ranked defense. The Bruins are also averaging 4 goals per game, making them tops in that category as well, while the Flyers own a middling-at-best defensive unit. It is all adding up to an easy win by Boston, and because of that, I will lay the 1½ goals on the puck line and cash a ticket with the Bruins!

Predicted Score: Bruins 4 – Flyers 1

Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets

Thursday, November 17, 2022 - 08:00 PM EST at Canada Life Centre

The Ducks will skate into the Canada Life Centre tonight and it doesn’t matter to us whether they win or lose because this game is all about the total. Anaheim’s last three games have gone under the posted total and it’s not all that surprising considering they have scored an average of 2 goals per game in those contests.

The Jets have also been going low on a consistent basis, averaging 3 goals per game over their last seven contests, but more importantly, holding their opponents to 1.7 goals per contest which is why Winnipeg’s totals have gone 0-6-1 over that span.

The Winnipeg defense has been playing well and it’s likely we will get their starting netminder, Connor Hellebuyck, tending the twine which is nothing but good news for those who are looking for this under pattern to continue.

If it's trends you seek, then look no further:

  • Under is 4-0-1 in the Jets’ last 5 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.
  • Under is 4-0-1 in the Jets’ last 5 games following a win.
  • Under is 5-0-1 in the Jets’ last 6 games playing on 3 or more days’ rest.
  • Under is 5-0-1 in the Jets’ last 6 vs. Western Conference.
  • Under is 5-0-1 in the Jets’ last 6 home games.
  • Under is 4-0-1 in the Ducks’ last 5 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.

Predicted Score: Jets 3 – Ducks 1

Detroit Red Wings vs. San Jose Sharks

Thursday, November 17, 2022 - 10:30 PM EST at SAP Center at San Jose

Detroit is in the midst of a four-game slump and will get an opportunity to snap that streak tonight in San Jose. And although the Red Wings have been losing, they have been very competitive in three of those four contests, losing by one goal in a shootout, regulation, and in overtime. In other words, this team is not mailing it in and is due for a win.

The Sharks may have won their last three but they are 1-7 at the SAP Center this season. Neither of these teams owns a prolific offense and the games between these clubs have been competitive over their last eight meetings with 1.75 goals being the average margin of victory in which the Red Wings have won half of those games.

The line is too generous to refuse as we are getting +111 over at BetOnline as of this Thursday morning writing and I suspect the books have the wrong favorite in this one. Let’s also evaluate a few patterns trending against San Jose in this matchup.

  • Sharks are 1-4 in their last 5 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game.
  • Sharks are 1-7 in their last 8 vs. Atlantic.
  • Sharks are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record.

Predicted Score: Red Wings 5 – Sharks 2
