Anaheim Ducks vs. Boston Bruins

Thursday, October 20, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at TD Garden

The Puck Line Pick

The offseason didn’t do much to help the Ducks. They were among the worst teams in the league last season and this year doesn’t look much better.

After winning their season debut in overtime against the lowly Seattle Kraken, Anaheim has proceeded to drop its last three, all by two goals or more.

The Bruins experienced the bitter taste of defeat for the first time this season in a 7-5 loss to the Senators on Tuesday. It was the third game in four nights for the B’s, yet their offense was locked and loaded.

Unfortunately, it was a night to forget for goalie Jeremy Swayman who allowed six goals on 19 shots before being pulled.

Hitting the Road Again

This will be the Ducks’ fourth road game in six nights as they take a tour of the East Coast where they have lost their first three games by a combined score of 17-7.

Now they will skate into Boston to meet a team that has had no problem putting the puck in the net this season and will likely get the better of their two platoon goalies, Linus Ullmark, tending the twine.

This has all the makings of a blowout win for the home team, so lay the 1 ½ goals and don’t sweat it!

Predicted Score: Bruins 5 - Ducks 1

Arizona Coyotes vs. Montreal Canadiens

Thursday, October 20, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Bell Centre

The Over/Under Pick

If there is one team that can get a lethargic offense up and running it’s the Coyotes’ defense. Arizona is ranked 31st in shots allowed and 30th in goals allowed which makes this the ideal opportunity for Montreal’s goal scorers to take flight and light the lamp.

The Canadiens need a spark to their offense and this comes at the perfect time, especially when they have had two days rest and are coming off a 3-2 overtime victory against the Penguins.

And although we believe the Habs will be scoring on Thursday night, we should also note that the Coyotes recently knocked off a playoff-caliber team with a 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Monday.

Arizona has plenty of holes in its defense and neither Karel Vejmelka (4.35 GAA, .894 Save Percentage) nor backup Connor Ingram will give the Canadiens forwards any sleepless nights. This looks like a good spot to go over the posted total in this one, and below are a few trends to substantiate this wager:

  • Over is 3-0-1 in the Coyotes' last 4 Thursday games.
  • Over is 3-0-2 in the Coyotes' last 5 games playing on 2 days’ rest.
  • Over is 7-1 in the Coyotes' last 8 road games.
  • Over is 5-1-1 in the Canadiens' last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
  • Over is 5-1 in the Canadiens' last 6 Thursday games.
  • Over is 5-1 in the Canadiens' last 6 games playing on 2 days’ rest.

Predicted Score: Canadiens 5 - Coyotes 3

Dallas Stars vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

Thursday, October 20, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Scotiabank Arena

The Moneyline Pick

Dallas Stars Analysis

The Stars skate into Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night boasting an undefeated record after downing the Jets, 4-1, in Dallas on Monday night.

Although the season is young and it’s a short sample, the Stars have come out swinging, outscoring their opponents 13-3 over their first three games.

We should also note that 23-year-old Jake Oettinger has been on point between the crease allowing just a goal per game with a .966 save percentage.

Toronto Maple Leafs Analysis

On the other end of the ice, the Maple Leafs enter this match with a 2-2 record having dropped a 4-2 decision to the Coyotes in their last game.

Toronto has yet to win a game by more than a goal and despite its talented roster, it still feels like this team is in preseason mode.

The differences between these teams to start the season is stark, and although the Leafs will eventually turn the corner, as their roster is too talented not to, I believe we are getting the Stars at the right time and at a generous price by the top-rated sportsbooks.

We should also point out that the road team is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these clubs.

Predicted Score: Stars 3 - Maple Leafs 2
