Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins

Monday, October 17, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at TD Garden

Panthers Undefeated

The Panthers are beginning their season by playing their first three games on the road. After victories over the Islanders and Sabres, the Cats take their undefeated act to Boston to face off against the equally undefeated Bruins.

Speaking of which, Boston skated to a 5-2 win over the Capitals in DC and followed that with a 6-3 home victory over the Coyotes. Boston is one of the few teams with double-digit goals after two games and although it’s a tiny sample size, the offense has been much better than anticipated.

David Pastrnak, David Krejci, and the recently signed free agent, A.J. Greer have been the chief contributors but there is little doubt we will soon hear from Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. However, we should point out that the Boston blueline will miss All-Star defenseman, Charlie McAvoy, who has been sidelined with a shoulder injury.

On the Road

The Panthers won the Presidents’ Trophy last season for the most points during the regular season and will naturally be the team the public will be eager to back, especially in the early part of the season.

However, this will be Florida’s third road game in five days and they will be taking on a hot Boston team that had ample opportunity to rest and get ready for this one after defeating the Coyotes in Boston on Saturday followed by a day off on Sunday.

Let’s grab the home dog on the moneyline and cash a ticket.

Predicted Score: Bruins 4 – Panthers 2

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Montreal Canadiens

Monday, October 17, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Bell Centre

Leading the League

The Penguins will skate into Montreal on Monday night after an effortless 6-2 win over Arizona before welcoming the Lightning to Pittsburgh and defeating them by an identical 6-2 score. Pittsburgh has a dozen goals after two games, the most in the league thus far, and will be playing a Canadiens team that has dropped their last two games and scored a grand total of just one goal in losses to the Red Wings and Capitals.

A Look at Last Season

The Penguins took two of three from Montreal last season, and in those wins outscored the Habs by an 11-2 margin. The oddsmakers are making the Pens heavy road chalk in this one with all of the best sportsbooks hanging Pittsburgh anywhere between -235 and -260 favorites.

And although I think an upset by Montreal is a long shot, I believe if the Penguins win, they will beat the Canadiens handily as they did last year. Lay the 1 ½ and don’t sweat it, just bet it.

Predicted Score: Penguins 5 – Canadiens 1

Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild

Monday, October 17, 2022 - 08:00 PM EDT at Xcel Energy Center

Divisional Matchup

A pair of Central Division rivals will tangle on Monday night as the Avalanche travel to Minnesota and will try to rebound after a 5-3 loss to the Flames in Calgary on Thursday. To be fair, it was the second game of back-to-backs for Colorado after having defeated the Blackhawks, 5-2, in Colorado the night before.

Meanwhile, the Wild began their season with a lack of defense and a whole lot of offense, especially in their 7-6 loss to the Rangers on Saturday. So far neither goalie, Marc-Andre Fleury nor Filip Gustavsson, could hold down the fort with both surrendering seven goals apiece in each of Minnesota’s two losses.

Trends for Overs

As we all know, the Avalanche have tons of offensive talent and this is a golden opportunity for them to flex against a team like the Wild that cannot seem to stop a nosebleed at this point. We should also take a look at a few total trends to help bolster our contention that this game will fly high on Monday night.

  • Over is 4-0 in Avalanche's last 4 Monday games.
  • Over is 5-1 in Avalanche's last 6 games playing on 3 or more days’ rest.
  • Over is 5-1 in the Wild's last 6 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game.
  • Over is 4-1 in the Wild's last 5 overall.
  • Over is 8-2-1 in the Wild's last 11 Monday games.

Both teams have gone over in their first two games of the season and the Avs will be well-rested after having three full days of rest while the Wild was off on Sunday. The offenses will be ready to roll and we will sit back and watch this one go over the posted total for our last NHL pick.

Predicted Score: Avalanche 5 – Wild 4
