Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Friday, November 25, 2022 – 05:30 PM EST at Wells Fargo Center

The entire league had Thanksgiving off as the scheduling gods had enough good sense to leave that holiday alone and in the sole possession of the NFL. Friday is a different story as there will be NHL action from early afternoon until deep into the night.

The first of three that looks good to us from a wagering standpoint is the mismatch in Philly. The Penguins will skate into the City of Brotherly Love for the first time this season and we will get a firsthand view of just how lopsided this affair will be from puck drop to the final buzzer.

The Flyers are ranked dead last (32nd) in goals scored, averaging 2.4 GPG, while the Penguins check in with a mediocre defense (19th) but an offense ranked 6th in the league, scoring 3.6 goals per contest.

If you believe the Penguins will win this game, and the oddsmakers would back up your contention as they are dealing Pittsburgh north of -200, then it’s not a giant leap to assume they will win by two or more goals based on their history this season.

Nine of the Penguins’ 10 wins have been by two or more goals with only their most recent victory, a 2-1 shootout win over Washington, being the lone exception. Lay the 1½ and cash a ticket.

Arizona Coyotes vs. Detroit Red Wings

Friday, November 25, 2022 - 08:00 PM EST at Little Caesars Arena

The Coyotes had an offensive explosion, at least for them, in beating the Hurricanes 4-0 on Wednesday night. It was the first time in two weeks Arizona had scored more than three goals and it’s not surprising that the under has clicked in 7 of Arizona’s last 8 games.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings are riding a three-game winning streak with their last effort culminating in a 3-0 victory over the Predators. Detroit is ranked 14th in scoring, averaging 3.3 goals per game, and 29th in shots per game while Arizona is 28th and 32nd respectively in those categories.

If you want more evidence this game is going low then consider the following trends:

  • Under is 4-0 in the Coyotes’ last 4 games playing on 1 day’s rest
  • Under is 8-0 in the Coyotes’ last 8 vs. Eastern Conference
  • Under is 6-0 in the Coyotes’ last 6 vs. a team with a winning record
  • Under is 7-1 in the Coyotes’ last 8 overall
  • Under is 7-1 in the Coyotes’ last 8 road games
  • Under is 4-1 in the Red Wings’ last 5 games following a win
  • Under is 5-1 in the Red Wings’ last 6 home games

Score Prediction: Red Wings 3 - Coyotes 2

Winnipeg Jets vs. Dallas Stars

Friday, November 25, 2022 - 08:30 PM EST at American Airlines Center

These two Central Division rivals hooked up earlier this month and the Jets blasted the Stars, 5-1, in front of the fan friendlies in Winnipeg. But this time around the venue has shifted and we have to ask ourselves if the result will, as well.

Dallas is leading the division with a 12-5-3 mark, good for 27 points, while the Jets are nestled in third place with an 11-6-1 record and 23 points but with two games in hand. Nevertheless, the oddsmakers have installed Dallas as a substantial home favorite ranging from -163 to -170. If that seems a little steep, join the club.

However, before we get too carried away, we should understand that the Jets have dropped their last seven decisions to the Stars in Dallas. That’s one major reason why we see the line so high but another is that the Stars own a much more potent offense, ranked 2nd in goals per game and power play percentage.

Jets as the Underdog

Now that we’ve explored why Dallas is the heavy favorite, we should discuss why the Jets are a live dog here. Obviously, they have already beaten Dallas once this year and by a wide margin. The second thing to consider is that Winnipeg is 4-0 in their last four games after scoring two goals or less in their previous game and are 5-1 in their last six versus Central division foes.

Would I be surprised if Winnipeg lost? No, but the odds we are getting make the Jets a viable road dog in a very winnable game that will pay a handsome return to their backers if they emerge victorious.
