Twice a week the people at Bookmakers Review ask me to give you the best bets on the NHL, and that is exactly what we’re gonna do… as soon as I eat this snack… I mean, let’s get right into it with your NHL best bets for January 18th!

If you’re a frequent reader of this column, first off… thank you. Secondly, you know that I love slagging most teams in the Metropolitan Division due to me being a New York Rangers fan (Praise Messier), so it delights me to start today’s column with two teams that have caused me to consider blood pressure medication at a few points in my life: the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the NHL odds and into how you should be wagering to cash out!

New York Islanders vs. Philadelphia Flyers

Tuesday, January 18, 2022 – 7:00 PM EST at Wells Fargo Center

The Flyers are hosting the Islanders off the backs of an eight-game losing streak that featured the Islanders defeating them last night 4-1 at UBS Arena on Long Island, the Flyers trailed in every metric that mattered except penalty minutes, having two to the eight of the Islanders.

While the Islanders have not scored more than five goals in a game since the early stages of the season in a 5-3 win over Ottawa, it seems the Isles are on a bit of an upswing winning six of their last ten, finding a rhythm during a stretch where they are facing teams comparable to their roster, building confidence and a potential playoff run.

But playing a team you just beat 24 hours prior while they're in the midst of an eight-game losing streak could be a trap game, is it? Probably not. But if you are looking to get a step closer to your own Solid Gold Pinwheel Hat (SGPH gang), I’d consider the Over 5.5 goals set at +125, parlaying that with an Islanders win (-127) could get you closer to your goal.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Dallas Stars

Tuesday, January 18, 2022 - 8:30 PM EST at American Airlines Center

Next up the Dallas Stars and the Montreal Canadiens face off as the Habs look to break a six-game losing streak and the Stars look to end a two-game skid on the road. While Montreal was looking at the lights against teams like Boston, the Coyotes, and the Blackhawks, Dallas lost to the top of the Eastern Conference: The Lightning and the Panthers (netting two goals in total). While Dallas is a -300 favorite, you should look to take the Over 5 ½ (+100) available at the top-rated books cause Dallas is looking to break the streak and, more importantly, they’re home and not on the road where they’ve lost seven straight games outside of Dallas.

The NHL in 2022 feels nearly impossible to predict, especially with a ton of games to make up, the Rangers being good, and nothing but chaos surrounding the league. But if you see something interesting in the world of hockey, think that I was off base on something or you’re an Islanders fan and looking to convert me.
