It’s cold, there is a lot of hockey and my joints hurt, so that must mean it is time for my cavalcade of NHL picks. Below, we’ll break down the best matchups for you and analyze the NHL odds

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Buffalo Sabres

Tuesday, January 11, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at KeyBank Center

We’re starting things off in Buffalo as the Sabres welcome the defending Stanley Cup Champions and the team I describe as “the ruiner of all good things": the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa, coming off a postponed game against the New Jersey Devils and prior to that were losers of four of their last six games, face off against a Buffalo team that has not won since December 16th due to five postponed games and an equal amount of losses in games they were able to play.

Things are down bad in the home of Westside Gunn, as the team that brought us, Dominik Hasek, has not won more than two games in a row this season as they continue to be haunted by the same ghost the Buffalo Bills are haunted by (I think it has something to do with Pete Gogolak, but this isn’t a football column).

If you’re looking at this game and looking to wager on Buffalo, I want you to walk to the nearest mirror in your house, stare at it and ponder whether or not you actually hate yourself.

Buffalo is 27th in goals against per game allowing an average of 3.47 goals, while Tampa is averaging 3.24 goals per game. The last time an opponent scored less than three goals on the Sabers were in their aforementioned last win over Minnesota in December.

For this game take the spread, as I’m iffy on the Over 6.5 goals (-115) because Tampa has allowed some not-so-great teams to keep things close.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Vegas Golden Knights

Tuesday, January 11, 2022 - 10:00 PM EST at T-Mobile Arena

Somehow the Vegas Golden Knights are an underdog to the Toronto Maple Leafs, which if you look at their records, makes some sense, both teams have 47 points and Vegas has lost three of their last four while Toronto has won four of their last five. It’s just jarring to look at that based on Vegas alternating between the four and one seed as both conferences become as volatile as the bitcoin market.

While Toronto has gotten some wins over some lesser teams, Vegas is coming off a loss to common opponent Chicago, whom the Leafs defeated by a narrow 5-4 margin earlier this season.

For me though, this game comes down to the line being what it is, which gives Vegas +105 odds straight up at home per the top-rated books and the spread being +1.5 goals set at -246. If you wanna dump a small amount of money into a game tonight and get your best bet by wagering on those two for what can be a very delicious return.
