There are more hockey games than members of my family that I speak to (if there were just one, then we’d still be in the same boat), and all of them are making me go full Pepe Silva to give you the best picks for this Thursday Night Hockey slate.

Let’s break down some NHL odds!

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Edmonton Oilers

Thursday, December 16, 2021 – 09:00 PM EST at Rogers Place

We’re starting with a battle of two teams looking to climb the rankings as Edmonton and the Columbus Blue Jackets are battling it out up in Canada.

With the Oilers taking six straight losses, five of them being on the road though… You’ll still be happy with your life if you take Columbus here, who are a +180 underdog yet have won five of their games on the road this season…

You then have two teams that are near the bottom of both goals scored AND allowed this season, so you have a potential straight-up bet of the Blue Jackets winning and the under 6.5 goals at -105, per BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review).

A $100.00 bet on each one can net you over $200, which ain’t bad for your holiday shopping budget.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Nashville Predators

Thursday, December 16, 2021 - 08:00 PM EST at Bridgestone Arena

Now in a cross-conference rival showdown as the Nashville Predators are the underdogs to a thriving Colorado Avalanche team.

Winners of their last five, the Avs travel to the Bridgestone Arena to battle a Predators team that slapped the Eastern Conference around with their own five-game winning streak, winning four of those on the road

I give the Avs the edge in this game because they were able to beat two of the top seeds in the east (Rangers and Florida Panthers) three times on their most recent run while Nashville were defeating teams like Montreal, the Islanders and the Devils (also the Rangers) where their biggest margin of victory was three goals

Also in that five-game span, Colorado has averaged 5.6 goals a game against tougher competition while the Predators have averaged 3.4, and way higher than their season average of 2.86 per game.

Expert Picks

When looking at our friends at BetOnline for this game, the over 6 goals scored in the game is set at -103, which looking at the averages for both teams and Colorado’s not so great job stopping the puck, seems a steal. Nashville has kept games tight AND defeated Colorado 6-2 earlier in the season.

So, if you’re looking at a reason to have extra hope in this game, the spread of -1.5 is at +140, and that may not be a bad NHL pick for two teams looking to extend a winning streak to six straight games and Nashville looking UP at Colorado in the Western Conference standings.
