Good lord there is a lot of hockey tonight. 13 games across the NHL and we’re gonna figure out the best ones that can make you some money, because… well that’s our job here at BMR, that and bringing back the pinwheel hat as a respectable fashion accessory.
Let’s break down some NHL odds.
Vegas Golden Knights vs. Boston Bruins
Tuesday, December 14, 2021 – 07:00 PM EST at TD Garden
First up is a game between the two teams currently slated as the 8th seed in their respective conferences if we started the playoffs tomorrow, the Boston Bruins and the Vegas Golden Knights.
While both of these teams are on the borderline of the playoffs that’s narrower than my need to make a Madonna reference every time I use the phrase borderline, these are two teams that are dramatically different in terms of where we stand in history.
It’s one of the youngest franchises in hockey against one of the oldest and if you asked me five years ago that an expansion franchise would have more semi-finals and Stanley Cup finals than any given original six team in that span, I’d have thrown a drink at you and then went on a 35-minute rant about the California Golden Seals being robbed of their place in hockey history.
Yet, here we are as the Bruins walk in 2-2 in their last four and the Golden Knights walking in at 3-1 in the same timespan, eating a 4-3 loss to Philadelphia, a team that is 1-1 against the Bs this year.
This year has been unkind to the goalie, as the offense has ratcheted up across the NHL, and teams like the Golden Knights not being able to net one shutout. While Robin Lehner is looking to stand on his own as the man between the pipes for the Knights, goaltending was the biggest hindrance for them last season and was the biggest Jenga piece to rob them of their first Stanley Cup.
On the other side of the street, the Bruins have been in the top third of the league in goals-against (2.54 per game, good for 7th in the league) and tied for fourth in save percentage.
Yet, all but three of their 10 losses this year have come at two goals or higher, and Vegas is fourth in the NHL in goals scored per game at 3.48 and Boston is nine spots lower at 2.83.
Our friends at Heritage Sports (visit our Heritage Sports Review) have the over six goals scored set at +107, with the way the Golden Knights have been scoring, their issues with goalkeeping and Boston scoring at least three goals per game in their last two wins.
We recommend you take this bet for your NHL pick tonight and have a good time as you think of that solid gold pinwheel hat you’ll buy if you win because it is the most sensible option and the most sensible gift one could give themselves this time of year.
