One of the most competitive and diverse division’s in the NHL is no doubt the Atlantic.

It can boast the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th favorite (and that doesn’t even include the Boston Bruins) team to lift the Stanley Cup outright with the top-rated sportsbooks betting odds.

We are delving into each team within the Atlantic division and checking out their season total points lines and NHL betting odds.

Boston Bruins

  • 95.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 107 (4th)

The Boston Bruins are starting to transition into a rebuild stage one would imagine, and they have started taking steps backwards.

Patrick Bergeron may retire, and some of their top skaters will miss a significant amount of time at the start of the regular season such as Charlie McAvoy and Brad Marchand.

A 5th of 6th place finish could be on the cards for Boston this season and we feel the under 95.5 points is the NHL pick here, we would feel really uncomfortable taking the over with this Bruins team in such a tough division.

Buffalo Sabres

  • 78.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 75 (5th)

Although the Buffalo Sabres managed a 5th place finish last season, they only managed 75 points and remember the 7th placed team managed a total of 73 points, the Sabres were incredibly close to finishing second last in 2021.

The Sabres are constantly in rebuild mode and it will be another fruitless season in Buffalo. This won’t be a pretty season for the Sabres and we predict a last place finish and to finish well under their 78.5 points total.

Detroit Red Wings

  • 84.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 74 (6th)

The Detroit Red Wings made some big moves this off season bringing in David Perron, Ville Husso and Ben Chariot. As well as their up and coming younger players who should be improving yet again this season.

The big concern is if Husso and Alex Nedeljkovic can step up their game to lock down the crease, they are relying heavily on these two to step it up a gear this season.

This is a tricky pick for us, so therefore we would pass on the Red Wings, they could easily finish between 83-87 points making this line too hard to bet right now.

NHL Pick: Pass

Florida Panthers

  • 104.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 122 (1st)

This line is overhyped in our opinion, yes, the Panthers won the Presidents trophy last season and ended the Atlantic division on 122 points, which is a hell of a lot. We must reign it back in, they lost a lot of top players this off season and have not looked to improve their blue line whatsoever.

Yes, the signing of Matthew Tkachuk could be some shrewd business but it’s not just him looking to gel with this team, they hired a new head coach following their playoff loss to fellow Florida team the Tampa Bay Lightning.

We expect this to be a very competitive division this season despite having some super weak teams in there. Florida have some solid goaltending but they will be under a lot of pressure AGAIN this season.

Montreal Canadians

  • 72.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 55 (8th)

After making it to the 2020 Stanley Cup Finals, in which they were swept 4-0 by the Tampa Bay Lighting and it was a sheer miracle they even made it that far, being the biggest outsider when the playoffs began.

The Canadians finished last in the Atlantic division in 2021 and we see a similar ending position this season, their line being set at 72.5 regular season betting odds seems laughable and we would happily take a shot on their under 72.5 regular season total points.

Finishing with 55 points last season, they are not going to be 18+ points any better in 2022/23.

Ottawa Senators

  • 86.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 73 (7th)

Despite finishing 7th last season, they were only 3 points away from ending the season in 5th and during the off season, they no doubt improved offensively. They have probably been the biggest improving team in the Atlantic division this off season.

They brought in Alex DeBrincat, Claude Giroux, and Cam Talbot to bolster their roster. Most projections have the Senators to finish inside the top 4, we are of the same belief although 4th position exactly may be their final resting place.

We are going to have to pass on this line, it’s too sharp for our liking.

NHL Pick: Pass

Tampa Bay Lightning

  • 103.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 110 (3rd)

Tampa Bay may have appeared to have taken a step back again this season with the loss of a top 6 forward and top 4 defender, but we are of the belief that Florida will regress and Toronto have some goaltender concerns.

Tampa Bay have a solid foundation and are able to adapt players easily into their rotation and style of play, their identity doesn’t change and they still have a world class goaltender in Andriy Vasilevskiy, one of the best NHL defenders in Victor Hedman and Steven Stamkos along with Nikita Kucherov up front.

Tampa Bay may well could win the division this season, they will just about sneak over their regular points total.

Toronto Maple Leafs

  • 107.5 Points
  • Last Season Pts: 115 (2nd)

The Maple Leafs have had one of the best rosters in the league for 2 or 3 seasons now and have not been able to get very far in terms of success.

Even a whopping 115 points last season only seen them finish 2nd in the division.

Plain and simple, we like the Leafs to finish 1st or 2nd this season, 107.5 points seem to be too sharp for our liking, they could easily win the division with 100 points, or easily finish 2nd with 110 points.

NHL Pick: Pass
