The Carolina Hurricanes are gearing up for a visit from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the PNC arena tonight, will the extra day’s rest aid the Hurricanes? Or is Toronto capable of beating two top teams both home and away in a back-to-back situation?

Let’s break down the NHL odds for today’s matchup down in Carolina.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Sunday, November 06, 2022 – 05:00 PM EST at PNC Arena

Team Analysis

Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto had to come up with a big result last night on home ice against the team in first place in both their division and Eastern Conference (the Boston Bruins) and they did just that with a narrow 2-1 victory. Both goals were scored by their star player Auston Matthews. It hasn’t been planned sailing for this Toronto team and they find themselves in the middle of the pack right now, which is not where they want to be.

Their losing trip to the West Coast really knocked them back in terms of progress and despite it being early in the season one would imagine this game, in a back-to-back situation, against Carolina could be the making or breaking of this team.

Their home record reads 5-1 whilst their road record is sitting at 1-3-2.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes come into tonight’s game having come off one of their best performances all year when they beat the high-flying Buffalo Sabres 5-3, on Friday night, which also included a Sebastian Aho hat trick.

Carolina is a team not to be messed with, they have the ability to win games in many different ways having won three of their previous four games after regulation.

A win for the Hurricanes tonight would see them jump to the top of the Metropolitan division and second in the Eastern Conference, they are fresh from a night off and one would imagine very pumped for this game tonight with the Leafs in town.

Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes Picks and Predictions

Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline

Despite having to lay odds of -140 to see the Carolina Hurricanes winning on the moneyline we are more than happy to do so in this situation, the Leafs have been poor on the road, whilst the Hurricanes have been strong at home.

The under is another angle we are liking here as both teams don’t allow too many shots on net and combined have allowed 5.4 goals per game

With that said our best and favorite pick is the Hurricanes to win on the moneyline, they are coming off a good performance and the Leafs are on a back-to-back, having traveled overnight.

Anything’s possible in this league but we struggle to see the Leafs winning this one, and if they do it will be by another narrow margin.

Austin Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs)

  • Over/Under 4.5 Shots

Matthews didn’t start off this season so well and only for his two goals last night against the Bruins we would still be putting him down but he came good last night for the Leafs and we have to applaud him for that. However, we believe he could struggle today and despite seeing his 4.5 shot line go over the total in 8 of his 13 games, we are likely to see him take less than five shots tonight for our NHL picks.

As we discussed the Hurricanes don’t let many shots on net and 3 of Matthews' 5 unders happened on the road this season. Another good example as to why we like his shot under is looking back at last year’s matchup against the Hurricanes he had 7 shots on home ice but only 2 whilst playing away.
