From the East Coast to the West Coast, the late-night NHL game today features back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, Tampa Bay. Their host are the Los Angeles Kings, who are looking to bounce back with a win after suffering a 6-2 loss to their rivals San Jose on Monday night.

The Lighting have won six of their previous seven games and four of their last five at the Arena.

Can the Kings pick up a win here as home underdogs? Or will Tampa Bay improve on their already impressive record?

Let’s break down the NHL odds for this matchup!

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Los Angeles Kings

Tuesday, January 18, 2022 – 10:30 PM EST at Arena

Tampa Bay Lightning

It’s been an impressive run of form for the former Hart Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov. After missing all of November and December, he returned to the line-up five days ago and the Lighting have gone 4-1 since his return. Prior to his return, the Lightning had gone 1-3. Kucherov has put up nine points in his five games.

Although no goaltender is confirmed at the time of writing, their number one, Andrei Vasilevskiy is most likely getting the nod as he hasn’t played since Saturday, which is plenty of rest. He has been solid this season having had a save percentage of .924 and an impressive 16.6 goals saved above expected.

Tampa Bay are red hot right now and with Kucherov back in the line-up and they look like a team who will challenge for the Stanley yet again.

Los Angeles Kings

The Kings have been playing above their expected results for long periods this season, and not to take that away from them, but their embarrassing defeat to their division rivals, San Jose, was a downturn of events, to say the least.

Not only was it a four-goal defeat, but it has come at the hands of a poor team in San Jose and what’s worse is the Sharks are now just one point behind the Kings, although the Kings have one game in hand, it’s a situation that could have easily been avoided.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not the end of the world but it’s never ideal to lose your first game in five and then have to host the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions, whilst also missing several players.

Los Angeles have also lost their previous three games to the Lighting on home ice by a goal difference of 15 to 6.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Los Angeles Kings Betting Pick

The Lighting are just going to prove to be too strong for the Kings here, in our opinion. They have the better and hotter goaltender in Vasilevskiy and their offense is scoring for fun these days having averaged 4.2 goals across their previous five NHL games.

We are going with a good value bet here on the Lighting to win the most periods at +100. This is a great spot for the team and they are so dangerous right now with the resurgent Kucherov back in the starting line-up.

We see them coming out on top in two of tonight’s three periods, at the very least, for our NHL pick and we believe the true odds here to be closer to -110/-115.
