The Tampa Bay Lightning come into Rogers Place having won their previous five games and 8 of their last 10.

The Oilers woke up last week and realized their playoff spot was not guaranteed and have since won four games.

Somebody’s winning streak will be taken down tonight, but who will it be? Let’s take a closer the NHL odds to find the values we need to keep cashing our NHL picks!

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Edmonton Oilers

Thursday, January 19, 2023 – 09:00 PM EST at Rogers Place

The Edmonton Oilers have the two best forwards in the league right now (at least in terms of total points scored) and are struggling to make this year’s playoffs. Yes, they are in a playoff spot right now, but that’s mainly due to their current 4-0 run. Another poor run of games could see them fall back out again.

The Oilers have had an extra day of rest as Tampa Bay are on the second of a back-to-back scenario having played the Vancouver Canuks last night.

Coming into tonight’s road game the Lighting are starting to look more and more dangerous as the season goes on and they could make it all the way to the finals yet again, for the 4th time in five years. Tampa Bay might be 5th in the tough Eastern Conference but are just three points behind 2nd placed Carolina.

Both these teams are two of the highest scoring in the NHL with both teams averaging 3.6 goals per game. On the defensive end of things, the Lighting have been much better having allowed 2.86 goals per game compared to the Oilers' 3.30.

Lightning vs Oilers Picks and Predictions

Zach Hyman (Edmonton Oilers)

  • Total Shots Over/Under

Zach Hyman has averaged 3.88 shots per game this season, which is the 2nd most on the Edmonton Oilers roster as well as the 11th most in the entire NHL.

At (+110) for the 30-year-old winger to see over 3.5 shots tonight we are more than happy to place this bet at plus money. This is set to be a fascinating game, with goals and shots aplenty expected.

Hyman has been on a somewhat cold streak having had 4+ game shots in only 1 of the previous 4 games, but we believe he can bounce back tonight and will bring his shooting gloves. Hyman has seen 4+ game shots in 57% of his games played this season.

Nikita Kucherov / Connor McDavid

  • Both Players Same Game Multi

We are playing a same game multi-bet selection for both Nikita Kucherov and Connor McDavid to have 2+ points tonight at +400.

McDavid, as we all know, leads the league with the most points, having had a total of 84 in 46 games, when looking at Kucherov he ranks third in the list of most points this season having had 64 in 43 games.

Kucherov has seen 19 multi-point games this season and McDavid has had 23. McDavid has seen 2+ points in 3 of his previous five games against the Lightning, while Kucherov has seen 2+ points in two of his last five against the Oilers.

NHL Pick: Both Players Over 1.5 Points Same Game Multi (+400) at Top Rated Sportsbooks

Tie After Regulation

We are expecting a tie game at the end of regulation, although it’s not a bet we place very often, we do like this scenario and believe a 3-3 high-scoring tie can be the order of the day, at (+400) we are willing to place this bet, and we advise not betting this any lower than (+370).

Interestingly tie games have not been the norm when these teams have met in recent times as just 1 of the previous 15 went to overtime and 3 of the previous 20, dating as far back as 2009. Both teams have witnessed overtime in 5 of their previous 30 games this season.

It’s a brave bet and one that’s unlikely to cash at a high rate so we advise staking only half a unit on this NHL play.
