Two teams still in action ahead of the All-Star break are the LA Kings and Carolina Hurricanes. The Kings are wrapping up their sixth road game in a row having gone 3-2 thus far whilst the home team Carolina can cement a six-point lead in the Metropolitan division with a win tonight having gone 7-3 over their previous ten games.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Tuesday, January 31, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at PNC Arena

Los Angeles Kings

Just six points separate first-placed and sixth-placed in the Western Conference with the LA Kings sandwiched in fifth place and trailing first-placed Dallas by four points. The Kings have done well to go 3-2 on the road during this stretch where they have won 6 of their previous ten road games as well as having a 14-9-4 road record overall

The Kings remain very much in the playoff picture and will be eager for a win here before the all-star break having lost 5-2 last time out.

Carolina Hurricanes

After impressive wins over the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins in the previous week, Carolina is currently riding a five-game winning streak. The Hurricanes have been one of the strongest teams in the NHL this season, currently second overall in the Western Conference they have controlled 60% possession per game this season which is the highest in the NHL.

Currently, they have allowed 2.61 goals per game, which is the fourth-best in the league. The Hurricanes might not have the more potent of offenses for such a strong team scoring only the 11th highest in the league and having scored on just 18.7% of their powerplays (the eighth lowest in the NHL).

Picks and Predictions

Carolina PK Line

Not only are the Hurricanes clearly the favorites here (as resilient as the LA Kings are) but we believe the Kings will be glad to wrap up this road trip and could be thinking more about getting back home for the first time in twelve days than their task at hand, which is beating one of the best teams in the NHL.

Carolina has been on fire lately and with this being their final game on home ice for 12 days they will be eager to pick up a win. We believe they can win this game on the -1.5 PK line at +125 with BetOnline. Carolina has beaten the Kings by 2+ goals in 5 of their previous 6 meetings whilst the Kings have not covered the spread in 4 of their previous 6 road losses.

Total Over/Under

Twelve of the previous 15 meetings between these two teams produced under 6.5 goals. We feel the under 6.0 goals is the way to go here as we are looking at laying -130 juice on the NHL odds. If the game ends on six goals exactly we will get a push or void bet.

At home, Carolina has seen one of the lowest amounts of games go over 6.5 goals this season in the Eastern Conference with only 39% of their games seeing 7+ goals. On the road, the LA Kings games have hit 7+ goals 48% of the time.

Predicted Score: Kings 2 - Hurricanes 4
