Targeting NHL player props can be a lot of fun and very profitable if you can determine what’s value and what’s not.
We profited +7.5 units last season with our NHL player props articles and we are looking forward to another season of props in 2022/23.
With that said its time to check out where we are heading tonight for our best value NHL Friday player prop selections from top-rated sportsbooks.
Montreal Canadiens vs. Detroit Red Wings
Friday, October 14, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Little Caesars Arena
Nick Suzuki of the Montreal Canadiens
This is a strange set of NHL odds for Nick Suzuki to have 3 or more shots on goal tonight.
Suzuki managed 3 shots on the Canadien’s season opener against the Maple Leafs and dating back to last season he matched Cole Caulfield for total shots on the team, yet Caulfield is -124 for 3 or more shots in tonight’s game.
Yes, its most likely because Caulfield managed 7 shots in the previous game, but for us, these sets of NHL odds are overpriced and we believe there to be significant value on Suzuki over 2.5 shots tonight.
Suzuki is one of the Canadiens' main-danger players and throughout his career to date has averaged 2.10 shots per game. This is most likely why we are getting plus money on him tonight but we are happy to ride it out with this set of odds.
Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings
Dylan Larkin has ended the previous 5 seasons as the Red Wings top shot taker and has done so in 6 of the previous 7 seasons.
He has also been the team’s top regular season point scorer in 3 of the previous 5 seasons and ended up as their top goalscorer in one of the seasons he didn’t have the overall most points.
Despite laying some juice here we like these odds, the Red Wings are at home in this season opener in Detroit and Larkin should have his shooting stick ready to go.
Last season he averaged just over 3 shots per game and we like his chances to hit that number tonight on home ice.
NHL Pick: Dylan Larkin O2.5 Shots (-124) at BetOnline
Carolina Hurricanes vs. San Jose Sharks
Friday, October 14, 2022 - 10:30 PM EDT at SAP Center
Brent Burns of the Carolina Hurricanes
After spending 7 years in Minnesota before joining the San Jose sharks for a further 11 seasons, Brent Burns has left the sunshine of California for the sticky heat in Carolina. Admittedly he only left San Jose because the GM wanted to free up cap room. His contract runs out in 2024/25.
Burns will be a strong addition to the Carolina team and managed to take 6 shots during the team’s season opener (the most on the team) as one of the best NHL picks.
Although we suspect he has a lot of love for the Sharks, we don’t believe he will not shoot the puck when given the opportunity, and to be getting +140 on Burns to see 3 or more shots is a really nice set of odds.
Brent Burns has averaged 2.75 shots per game throughout his career. Let’s hope Burns enjoys his time back in the SAP Center tonight with some shots on the net.
Teuvo Teravainen of the Carolina Hurricanes
Sticking with the Carolina Hurricanes because we expect them to win this game tonight, we are also liking the odds on Teuvo Teravainen to pick up an assist at NHL odds of +140 at BetOnline.
Teravainen has been very consistent for the Carolina Hurricanes since joining the team back in 2015/16 from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Teravainen has played 441 games for the Hurricanes and has assisted 221 goals. Since 2018 he has assisted 101 goals in 166 games. Admittedly we also like the fact that Teravainen didn’t manage a single point in the season opener.
He will be eager to post up a point tonight and its clearly obvious his ability to be a playmaker is much better than his goalscoring ability as he has double the amount of career assists than goals.
NHL Pick: Teuvo Teravainen Over 0.5 Assist (+140) at BetOnline
