Editor’s Note: The game between the Flames and the Blackhawks was postponed by the league after multiple players from Calgary entered the COVID protocol, per the NHL.
The sole Monday night game in the NHL sees the high-flying 15-7-6 Flames travel to Chicago to face off against the Blackhawks that sit with a 10-5-2 record. Although Calgary sits 2nd in the Western Conference, they are currently going through a four-game losing streak, can they break that trend here as -135 favorites on the road?
Calgary Flames vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Monday, December 13, 2021 – 07:30 PM EST at United Center
Flames Defense Has Been Key
Calgary's defense has been their main strength this season as they sit second in goals allowed with just 2.21 on the season so far. They have had the fifth-best penalty kill and have allowed their opponents the least amount of shots on net in the entire NHL. Offensively they have been much weaker, only scoring the 13th most goals and the 23rd most shooting percentage in the NHL.
Calgary has allowed just over three goals per game in their previous five games and given that they are on a four-game losing streak, they will be eager to get back to winning ways again this Blackhawks team who they have beaten in eight of their previous ten meetings.
Although things have turned around for Chicago as they opened the season going 1-11, allowing 37 goals in that period and scoring 27, a goals difference of -10. It’s been a struggle for the likes of Jonathan Toews and Dylan Strome who have only combined for 27 points this season. Seth Jones is a defender and also leads the Blackhawks in points this season with a total of 23 points, one more than Patrick Kane.
The Blackhawks have now gone twelve games in a row where they have won-lost / won-lost, etc. They are yet to win twice in a row or lose twice in a row in this twelve-game stretch. The Blackhawks also have the second-worst home record in the Western Conference, with just two wins in regulation and three in overtime, and six defeats.

Calgary Flames vs. Chicago Blackhawks Betting Prediction
Although it might be tempting to take the Blackhawks at plus money here, we must believe the Flames will be on their game tonight to break the losing streak and they couldn’t ask for a much better team to face these days as the Blackhawks are unlikely to improve further and it seems a 50% record for the rest of the season is probably as good as it could get for Chicago.
The Blackhawks have only averaged 2.10 xG goals per 60 minutes and we believe the Flames defense should be able to keep them at bay and come away with a win in this game. We are happy to take the Flames to win here at -135, there is probably value on them too as low as -145. Although if you don’t like minus money the Flames to win in 60 minutes is a nice +100.
Interestingly the Blackhawks could be about to suffer two losses in a row for the first time since November 5th.
