Although these two teams are worlds apart right now, the St Louis Blues did manage to get one over on the Devils when these teams last met with a 5-2 victory.

It was one of the rare occasions the Devils conceded 4+ goals as they have only done so in just 12 of their 53 games played.

Check out our betting preview of this Western vs. Eastern cross-conference NHL clash and why we believe the Devils can win this one as well as our best NHL player prop pick.

New Jersey Devils vs. St Louis Blues

Thursday, February 16, 2023 – 09:00 PM EST at Enterprise Center

Team Analysis

New Jersey Devils

The Devils come into this game as one of the most dominant teams in the NHL, ranking inside both the top five best for both goals scored and goals against. As for their road record, it’s very impressive, to say the least at 20-3-3, compared to their home record which is sitting at 15-10-2.

The Devils are currently 3rd in the Eastern Conference as they trail the Carolina Hurricanes by three points for 2nd spot, the Bruins are almost untouchable with a 10 points gap between the two teams.

St Louis Blues

The Blues just lost Vladimir Tarasenko and then go and win two games back to back, this is typical form for the Blues this season as they sit 11th overall in the Western Conference.

The Blues have been slightly below par offensively this season averaging 3.08 goals per game. Yes, they have a strong core with the likes of Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas, etc, but outside of those two players and maybe one or two others it’s been almost none existent.

Their goaltender Jordan Binnington has been all over the place this season, with a 20-18-3 record allowing 3.28 goals per game.

Stats and Trends

New Jersey Devils

  • New Jersey is 15-5 in their last 20 games on the road
  • The total has gone under in 7 of New Jersey's last 10 games against an opponent in the Central Division
  • New Jersey is 1-8 in their last 9 games when playing on the road against St. Louis

St Louis Blues

  • The total has gone over in 5 of St. Louis' last 5 games at home
  • The total has gone over in 14 of St. Louis' last 16 games against an opponent in the Eastern Conference
  • St. Louis is 2-5 in their last 7 games

Devils vs Blues Picks and Predictions

New Jersey Devils

  • Win in Regulation

The Blues are a streaky team with no consistency, having won back-to-back games and scoring a total of 12 goals seems way above this team's capability right now and a stern Devils team should be able to shut them down.

Give us the Devils to win this one in regulation at some plus money for a solid NHL pick tonight.

The Devils are missing their star forward right now so its best just to play them on the regulation line as opposed to the -1.5 puck line which although might be tempting at (+160), it’s worth noting the Devils have not covered this spread in 9 of their previous 10 games.

The Devils should have enough strength both offensively and defensively tonight against this Blues team who are due an underwhelming night.

NHL Pick: Devils Win in Regulation (-110) at BetOnline

Nico Hischier (NY Devils)

  • Over/Under Shots

Without the Devils' top-shot taker Jack Hughes being available, we are more than happy to lay the (-115) odds on Nico Hischier to see over 2.5 shots in tonight’s game.

Hischier has averaged 3.1 shots per game this season and since the start of 2023 has had 3+ game shots in 9 of his previous 15 NHL games.

With no Hughes tonight the shooting responsibility is likely to fall to himself and Dougie Hamilton, although we like Hamilton’s total over also, it’s a much safer bet to take Hischier over 2.5 as opposed to Hamilton’s line which is set at 3.5 for (-110) at current NHL betting odds.

Predicted Score: New Jersey Devils 4 – St Louis Blues 1

NHL Pick: Nico Hischier Over 2.5 Shots (-115) at Top-Rated Sportsbooks
