Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers

Thursday, May 7, 2021 – 9:00 PM ET at Rogers Place

Sportsbooks Write Off The Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks, who are playing catchup as the season hurtles towards the finish-line, are set to take on the Edmonton Oilers for a third game in a row. However, given their recent performance against Edmonton at home, the prognosis or outlook in NHL betting markets isn’t positive for their upcoming road trip.

Previously this week, the Canucks and Oilers collided in back-to-back contests in Vancouver with the latter sweeping both games by a combined score of 9-3. Tuesday’s contest was the most recent and resulted in a commanding 4-1 win for the Oilers, underscoring their significantly favourable odds across multiple sports betting sites.

The lone score for the Canucks came from Brock Boeser, who netted his 19th goal of the season, but that was all Vancouver’s response amounted to against the sizzling hot Oilers.

The Canucks currently prop up the Pacific Division with a 19-25-3 mark and 41 points, a record that’s encompassed by a 12-12-2 mark at home and a 7-13-1 mark on the road. In their last ten games, the Canucks are 3-7-0 SU, a run of form that is underscored by a six-game losing streak.

Oilers Headed To Playoffs

The Oilers decimated the Canucks on the road with relative ease in back-to-back contests between Monday and Tuesday this week. Leon Draisaitl scored a brace while Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse scored a goal each in the come from behind win.

Although the Canucks scored first in the first period, the Oilers raised the level in the second period scoring three of their four goals to take the commanding lead. They never looked back and added a final goal in the fourth quarter.

On the season, the Oilers are ranked second overall in the Pacific Division behind a 32-17-2 mark. They’re a solid 15-10-0 at home and 17-7-2 on the road. While recent form stands at 5-1-0, they’re a convincing 7-3-0 in their last ten games and enjoying a three-game winning streak as well. Prior to beating the Canucks, the Oilers defeated provincial rivals Calgary Flames 4-1.

In their last three games, the Oilers have scored 13 goals and conceded merely 5 goals. Expanding that to their last six games, they’ve scored 23 goals while conceding just 10 goals in return.

NHL Betting Predictions and Picks

It’s no surprise that sportsbooks are tipping this game in Edmonton’s corner. The Oilers are playing with confidence, whilst riding the momentum of their playoff clinching form into their last lap around the league.

The Canucks, in the meanwhile, are simply off form and wholly off colour and in the doldrums as they simply go through the motions down the stretch. There’s little to like about the Canucks in the betting, leaving the Oilers as the obvious NHL pick.
