The second round of the NHL playoffs is upon us and we have the first rounds of the series tonight in the Rangers and Hurricanes matchup as well as the Canadian classic between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.

Let’s check out which NHL Player props are on our radar tonight.

New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at PNC Arena

Mika Zibanejad | New York Rangers

We cannot believe we are getting Swedish born Zibanejad to see 3+ shots at the NHL odds of -120 in this matchup, most likely because this is a road game the line is so nice but we are more than happy to take it after Zibanejad has averaged 3.3 shots per game in the playoff thus far.

He has also managed to pick up 3 goals and 8 assists in the first round 4-3 series win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Rangers Centre now has the 2nd most assists and the 3rd most points in the playoffs thus far.

He is hot and we are happy to jump on the big man again tonight.

Vincent Trocheck | Carolina Hurricanes

This is a big value play here, Trocheck should not be +300 to score anytime in tonight’s game, we had him priced in around +260/270 max so to get +300 is a must bet.

The second line center has picked up 3 goals in the playoffs so far and given this Carolina team like to share the goalscoring load around the entire team rather than just the star players this will help our chances of cashing.

Understandably his 21 goals in 81 regular-season games might make you hesitant to bet on Trocheck tonight, so for this reason we suggest 1/2 unit play for this NHL pick.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 – 09:30 PM EDT at Scotiabank Saddledome

Conor McDavid | Edmonton Oilers

What more can be said about Conor McDavid, he is already the top points scorer in the playoffs with 14 points picked up from 4 goals and 10 assists.

All this is even more impressive when we see the Oilers had just the 6th most amount of shots in the opening round of the playoffs, a massive 60 shots less than the ousted Pittsburgh Penguins, one can only imagine how many possible points McDavid could have with an extra 60 team shots under his belt.

The Kings were able to keep McDavid quiet for just one of the games in a 4-0 defeat, in the other 6 games of the Series McDavid scored 2 points on 4 occasions and 3 points in the other two games.

The forward also has a good record against the defensively strong Flames team as he has been able to score three and assist four in just four games against the Flames this season.

Although one might think an opening game might be tight with not many goals (and of course it’s possible) we believe the Oilers fundamentally can’t win defensive games and are much more effective when trying to outscore their opponents, also just check out the average goals per game across these two teams previous head 2 head record, with an average of 8 goals per game.

NHL Pick: McDavid Over 1.5 Points (-120) with BetOnline

Evander Kane | Edmonton Oilers

Evander Kane is the top goalscorer remaining in the competition as both 1st placed Jake Guentzel and tied 2nd Kirill Kaprizov has been eliminated.

Kane scored in just 3 of the 7 games against the Kings in round one but when he did score, he did in bundles as he scored 2 goals on two occasions, and his first career playoff hat trick was in an 8-2 win during the game 3 of the series.

We are more than happy be bet Kane to pick up just a point in this game at betting odds of -115, he also picked up two assists in the opening series, making it a total of 9 points from 7 games, and 4 of those 7 he managed to score a point.

We honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him find the back of the net again but do believe with it being opening-round gameplay it is a little safer with the points.

If you are feeling bold enough Kane is +200 to score anytime.

NHL Pick: Kane Over 0.5 Point (-115) with BetOnline
