We have an exciting NHL matchup tonight as the red hot and Western conference leaders, Nashville Predators play host to the hottest team in the league over the past 20 games, the Colorado Avalanche.

However, the Avalanche are missing some considerable players due to Covid Protocol. Despite that, they are still favorites to come away with the win in Nashville tonight at -160 on most top-rated sportsbooks.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Nashville Predators

Tuesday, January 11, 2022 – 8:00 PM EST at Bridgestone Arena

Nashville Offense on Fire

The Predators have been a formidable force in recent games, going 11-1-1 in their previous thirteen outings and they also managed to beat the Avalanche 5-2 in that stretch of games. The Predators have averaged 3.70 goals per game during this 13 game stretch, and goaltender Juuse Saros has been shutting shop having allowed less than two goals per game in his previous thirteen starts, including two shutouts.

Although top scorer Filip Forsberg is missing tonight due to Covid Protocol, they still have Roman Josi, Matt Duchene, and Mikael Granlund available. These three have combined for 97 points this season.

The Predators are really starting to look like an all-around team and although we would argue their main strength is from the back end of the ice, the front guys are doing a great job these days and who knows how deep into the playoffs this team may go.

Colorado Avalanche

There’s no need to panic at all for this Avalanche side, despite the Predators holding the top spot in the western conference, Colorado are just two points behind first and have four games in hand on 1st and 2nd and six games in hand on 3rd and 5th. We can’t see Colorado losing many of those games in hand and the top spot is theirs to lose.

The Avs are coming into this game on a back to back after beating Seattle on the road 4-3 last night, despite it being a difficult game, this team just knows how to get things done and come away with wins. Cale Makar has been arguable one of the stars of the team picking up 16 goals in 15 assists in just 28 games, consider him for a point in tonight’s match-up at -140. Just four other defensemen have more points than him, and all are big names, Josi, Hedman, Fox, and Carlson.

Anybody who follows this league will know the Avs like to beat teams with their offense and their defense is the weakest part of their team, allowing 3.25 goals per game, which is the ranked 21st in the league. On the opposite side, they have averaged 4.3 goals per game.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Nashville Predators Betting Prediction

Despite Colorado being one of the top teams in the league, their defensive woes could cause them a problem here against Nashville on the road. The Predators have a much better defense and goaltender and offensively their numbers are enough to put it up to the Avs if they can somehow keep their offense quiet.

Amazingly the Avs have seen an average of eight goals per game over their previous 20 NHL outings and with their weak defense with that high octane offense coming up against another strong offense and red hot team, we are more than happy to take the over 6.0 in this NHL matchup. The Predators do represent a lot of value here but we believe the over to be the safer play. No matter what style of game the Nashville will want to lay here, we all know Colorado are going to turn this one into a shootout.
