We ran through our approach to betting the NHL draft in an earlier article this week, but now we are going to delve into some betting picks. Check out what our best value selections are ahead of the 2022 NHL draft.

2022 NHL Draft

Thursday, July 7, 2022 – 04:00 PM EDT at Bell Centre

Top NHL Prospects: Shane Wright and Juraj Slafkovsky

We mentioned both Shane Wright and Juraj Slafkovsky in our earlier article this week about how to bet the 2022 NHL Draft. How their stats add up, where they might end up being drafted, and by whom, so you can go over there and check that out. This is just a short snip of both players.

Although it seems the Montreal Canadians will be looking to draft Shane Wright, they did have concerns after the combine so it seems right now it’s a 50/50 toss on which player, they will end up taking as the overall 1st draft pick.

The New Jersey Devils will happily settle for Shane Wright if the Canadians take their man Juraj Slafkovsky, but they would really like to get the Slovakian as he could be a better prospect than Wright, he would suit their system, and they need a winger.

What Are Their Odds?

  • At the time of writing, Shane Wright is as low as -275 to be the first overall pick.
  • Slafkovsky can be bet at +175 with the top-rated sportsbooks.
  • After these two the next best is Logan Cooley who is priced up at +2200.

NHL Draft Prop Bet: David Jiricek

At +1000 to be drafted first, there’s really no value in taking David Jiricek to be drafted first overall, and he won’t be as neither team is in dire need of a defenceman as much as they need those skilled players.

We do however like the Czech player to be drafted ahead of Joakim Kemell at -125. Our mock draft has Jiricek to be drafted in 5th position overall compared to 7th overall for Kemell.

Seattle and Philadelphia have the 4th and 5th pick and both need a defender, so if the Kraken passes on Jiricek and takes Simon Nemec, we suspect the Flyers will go for Jiricek. All this talk doesn’t even include centre Cutter Gauthier. For those interested, Jiricek to go before Nemec is +145 with BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review).

NHL Draft Prop Bet: Joakim Kemell

Having just taken Jiricek to finish ahead of the 18-year-old Finnish player Kemell, we do like Kemell to be drafted before 8th overall and this has got to be one of the top value plays at +185 to be drafted under 7.5.

Kemell is a natural goalscorer and has scored 51 goals in 89 games since starting at the under 20 levels. Kemell is 5 foot 9, with a lot of ice speed, and is very quick plus agile. He is somewhat of a power-play specialist.

We honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him get taken 5th or 6th. If anything it’s a small hedge on Jiricek to be drafted before him.

NHL Draft Prop Bet: Jagger Firkus

This is one of our favorite plays in the 2022 NHL draft and we don’t mind laying the -125 juice. Firkus has been a sensation in the WHL scoring 36 goals and 80 points in just 66 games as well as the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game MVP. He has a strong shot of the puck and in our mock draft, we have the Minnesota Wild picking him up. It will be unbelievable.

Filip Mesar has had a very poor season compared to Firkus, scoring just 4 goals and 14 points. Two seasons ago in the Slovakian top league and last year, he accumulated just 8 goals and 16 points. Interestingly most elite draft mocks have Firkus to be drafted around 25th, whilst Mesar isn’t even inside the top 32 selections.

To be getting -125 on this selection seems like the best value across the board, don’t be surprised to see Firkus go well before the 25th spot overall.
