Tennessee Titans vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Sunday, December 4, 2022 – 01:00 PM EST at Lincoln Financial Field

Under Attack

The Titans had won seven of eight entering last week’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals and were installed as one-point home underdogs. After a scoreless first quarter, the Titans drew first blood courtesy of a 33-yard field goal off the foot of Caleb Shudak.

The score was tied at 10 entering the second half and the defenses ruled with the Titans managing only field goals on all three occasions inside the red zone while Joe Burrow struck a 27-yard touchdown pass to Tee Higgins to take a lead they would not relinquish in the Bengals’ 20-16 victory.

Ryan Tannehill passed for 291 yards, yet was held without a touchdown, while Derrick Henry and the Titans' rushing attack was neutralized by the Bengal’s run-stop, garnering a total of just 63 yards on the ground.

"We just couldn't get nothing started in the run game, and I mean they executed," Henry said. "They played better than we did."

Eagles Continue to Soar

Philadelphia remains very much in control of the NFC East but the Cowboys are still hanging around and don’t appear to be going away anytime soon. The Eagles are coming off of a Sunday night victory over the shame-spiraling Packers but it wasn’t easy as the two teams battled back and forth throughout the evening.

But when the dust settled, and the smoke cleared, Philadelphia prevailed, 40-33, and Jalen Hurts ran his way into the record books with 157 yards on the ground to set an Eagles’ single-game rushing record for a quarterback. And if you don’t recall, Philadelphia has had several fleet-footed phantoms under center in the forms of Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, and Randall Cunningham.

"You work so hard for this," Hurts said. "You work late nights and early mornings, go out there and give it your all."

Hurts went 16-of-28 through the air for 153 yards with two touchdowns but his mobility put the Packers on their heels throughout. Miles Sanders had 21 carries for 143 yards and two trips into the end zone while the defense had three sacks and two interceptions off Aaron Rodgers while putting him out of the game with a rib injury.

Team Trends

  • Titans are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 250 yards passing in their previous game
  • Titans are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games
  • Titans are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall
  • Titans’ head coach, Mike Vrabel, is 21-7 ATS when getting 3 points or more
  • Eagles are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game

Pick and Prediction

All the Eagles do is win but before we get too carried away, we should note that they are 1-3 against the spread over their last four contests. Furthermore, they are going to be in for a long afternoon of trying to stop Derrick Henry from steamrolling their front line.

Green Bay’s A.J. Dillon had 8 yards per carry in Philadelphia’s last game, and when the Eagles finally decide they have had enough of Henry hammering home real estate, they will bring the linebackers close to stuff the run, allowing Tannehill more time in the pocket.

Although Ryan Tannehill is not an elite passer, he is solid in that regard and will be able to exploit an injured Philadelphia secondary. Of course, the Eagles will get their fair share of points but the Tennessee run-stop unit is one of the best in the business, ranked 3rd, allowing 84.5 yards per game. If you take away Philly’s ability to ground and pound then you’ve got a good shot of hanging within the margins.

This is setting up as a trap game for Philly as they have just come off of a huge win over the Packers in the Sunday Night Football spotlight and could very well be looking ahead to their battle with their divisional rivals, the New York Giants, next week.

Speaking of the Giants/Eagles rivalry, it’s interesting to note that Philadelphia is 6-15 ATS in the game before they meet Big Blue. And one last observation. This line opened with Philadelphia installed as a 6 ½ point favorite and that number has already plummeted to as low as -5 at most of the majors. It could drop even further so if you’re so inclined, take a bite of the Titans right now!
