Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sunday, January 09, 2022 – 04:25 PM EST at Raymond James Stadium

The Panthers entered Week 18 as 7-point underdogs and remain the team getting the points for this matchup. As for the Buccaneers, they were 13-point favorites last week and are still the favored team in Week 18. According to BetOnline, Tampa Bay is an 8-point favorite over Carolina with the over/under at 42.

The Matchup

The Panthers fell 18-10 against the Saints last Sunday, marking their sixth straight loss. However, things looked good early on for Carolina, who led 10-3 early on but failed to not score again. New Orleans managed to hold the struggling Panthers’ offense to only 178 total yards. QB Sam Darnold threw for 305 yards, one touchdown, and an interception.

Now, Carolina enters Week 18 ranked 31st in total offense, averaging just 297.8 total yards per game. Carolina last played the Buccaneers in Week 16 and lost 32-6, even though Tampa was down several key starters due to injuries and COVID-19. Now, they’ll face a healthier Bucs team, which could result in another nightmare for them as their season comes to an end.

On Tampa Bay’s side, they came up with a dramatic 28-24 win over the New York Jets in Week 17, marking their sixth win over their last seven outings. But, the final touchdown to put them over the top came with just 15 seconds left on the clock as QB Tom Brady connected with wideout Cyril Grayson.

Brady continued to have a “GOAT” day and led the leagues’ top passing offense to 405 total yards. He personally tossed for 399 yards and four TDs. While the Bucs were still down, wide receiver Antonio Brown caused a scene by taking off his jersey and throwing it into the crowd then exited the game and never returned.

This is a bad time for the Panthers to be facing the Buccaneers, who nearly embarrassed themselves and lost to the Jets last week. Tom Brady is going to come into this one heated and want to prove to the league that he and Tampa are the best. If the Bucs win this one, they’ll seal the No. 2 spot in the playoffs.

And it shouldn’t be a tough task against a Carolina team, who still doesn’t have their answer at quarterback or their star running back in Christian McCaffrey to save the day. For your sports betting, expect Tampa to breeze by and then sit their starters to keep them in good shape for the playoffs.
