Houston Texans vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Sunday, October 23, 2022 – 04:05 PM EDT at Allegiant Stadium
The Texans are coming off of their bye week after a 13-6 victory over the Jaguars, pulling an upset as seven-point underdogs in hostile territory.
It was the first win of the season for Houston but bettors should know the Texans are now 3-1-1 ATS despite owning the 26th-ranked scoring offense, averaging 17.2 points per game.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are 1-4 straight up and 2-3 against the spread but have to be a bit optimistic after a gritty, yet losing effort to the powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead in their last performance. The Raiders dropped a 30-29 decision to the Chiefs but easily covered as 7 ½ point road favorites.
Derek Carr threw two touchdown passes and Josh Jacobs rumbled for 154 yards and a one-yard plunge into the end zone.
Texans vs. Raiders: Pick and Prediction
The Texans will be well-rested as they travel to Sin City and have a defense that can best be described as bend-but-don’t-break as they rank 31st in total yards allowed, yet hold their opponents to under 20 points per game which ranks them 13th in that category.
Despite Houston’s rest coming into this and the fact they have a knack for keeping the score down, I can’t see them stopping Derek Carr and his 6th-ranked scoring attack, averaging over 25 points per game.
Allowing teams to pile up yards will eventually doom the Texans to a big loss and I see it happening here.
Predicted Score: Raiders 31 – Texans 16
New York Jets vs. Denver Broncos
Sunday, October 23, 2022 - 04:05 PM EDT at Empower Field
New York Jets
The New York Jets have been the biggest surprise this season, except for their roommates at MetLife Stadium, the New York Giants.
Gang Green won their biggest game of the season last Sunday when they shocked the Packers, 27-10, and rolled up 179 yards on the ground while limiting Aaron Rodgers to one touchdown on the afternoon.
Denver is working on a short week after dropping their second overtime game in a row, a 19-16 loss to the Chargers in LA on Monday night.
The Broncos' defense is solid enough but the offense cannot get out of neutral as Russell Wilson had only 188 passing yards while the rushing attack failed to break the century mark.
Jets vs. Broncos: Pick and Prediction
Not surprisingly, the opening line of Denver -3 ½ has already dropped to -3 as of this Tuesday morning writing. The public will be wondering what Denver has done to deserve favored status in this one and I’m wondering as well.
The Jets' offense is nothing to write home about but their defense is ranked 9th in total yards allowed while the Broncos' offense has been anemic, ranked dead last and averaging 15.2 points per game.
This should be a low-scoring affair which makes the field goal head start even more valuable, especially against a team working on a short week.
Predicted Score: Jets 19 – Broncos 17
Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Sunday, October 23, 2022 - 04:25 PM EDT at SoFi Stadium
It took an impressive defensive performance to limit the Cardinals’ offense to just three points in Seattle’s 19-9 victory last Sunday. Had it not been for a fumble recovery by Arizona in the Seahawks’ end zone, this would have been a 19-3 victory.
The Seahawks' defense also had six sacks on Cardinals’ quarterback, Kyler Murray, and pressured him throughout. Geno Smith had 197 yards through the air while running back Kenneth Walker tallied 97 yards on 21 carries and one trip into the end zone.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers escaped with a victory on Monday when they defeated the Broncos in overtime, 19-16, and kept pace with the Chiefs atop the AFC West with a 4-2 record.
Justin Herbert tossed 238 yards but was kept off the scoreboard and was picked off once in the victory.
Seahawks vs. Chargers: Pick and Prediction
The Chargers’ offensive line is a big concern and the fact that Seattle’s defense, ranked 22nd in passing yards allowed, 31st against the run, and 30th in points allowed, held Arizona to just three points is surprising, to say the least. Maybe they have found their sweet spot and will take that mojo into SoFi Stadium.
The Bolts have underperformed on both sides of the ball recently, yet are 4-2 on the season. Eventually, these things catch up and a regression to the mean is in order for LA.
The Chargers are also entering this matchup on a short week so let’s grab the points with the Seahawks, especially when we can still get a touchdown head start at some of the best sportsbooks.
Predicted Score: Chargers 24 – Seahawks 20
