The Eagles and Cowboys will play an NFC East divisional matchup on Monday Night Football. This rivalry is always fun but this time it might be the offenses that step up in this one.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys
Monday, September 27, 2021 – 08:15 PM EDT at AT&T Stadium
The NFC has always been a brutal division in the NFL. Last season, the Washington Football team finished 7-9 and made the playoffs. At this point, we’re just hoping one of these teams can finish with a winning record this season.
Whoever wins this game between the Eagles and Cowboys will have a winning record, at least through three games.
The Cowboys took a close loss to the defending champions to open up the season but found a way in their second game against the Los Angeles Chargers, 20-17 with a game-winning field goal.
The Cowboys look fantastic on offense behind Dak Prescott who has returned from injury. His play has been great but the offensive line has not really protected him very well this season. Still, the Cowboys average 449 yards per game through two games and that’s more than enough to win ball games, especially in the NFC East.
Defensively, however, Dallas has allowed 24 points per game and 432 yards per game. They’ve missed plenty of tackles and really haven’t looked good in any phase of the game defensively. The rush defense has allowed 73.5 yards per game but they’ve been worse than that. As more rushing attempts are made against this defense, the yards will go up.
The coverage has also been bad but that’s also due to a poor pass rush that has given quarterbacks all the time in the world to make a play.
On the other hand, the Eagles are also 1-1 and looking to make a splash in the division. They proved everyone wrong in Week 1 with a huge win over the Falcons but Week 2 threw everyone back to reality.
Jalen Hurts has shown he’s more than a runner with three passing touchdowns and no interceptions through three games. However, he’s still the top rusher on the Eagles and has been their key player this season, obviously.
The Eagles' defense has been much better than the Cowboys. The pass rush is always outstanding but losing Brandon Graham for the year won’t help their case. Outside the pass rush, the Eagles don’t really have the best defense either. They’ve been allowing 120.5 yards per game on the ground and have also missed many tackles in the open field early.
The Cowboys' one weakness on offense has been their pass protection. The one area that the Eagles have performed well on defense has been the pass rush. If the Eagles pass rush is effective against the Cowboys, they’ll limit the Cowboys' offense enough to where this game goes under the total.
However, without Brandon Graham, I don’t think the Eagles pass rush will be all that effective anymore.
Both offenses have looked way better than these defenses to start the season, despite the Eagles allowing just 11.5 points per game in their first two games.
For my NFL pick, I’m taking a look at the Over 51.5 in this matchup. I don’t trust either team when it comes to their rush defense, coverage, and tackling.
