Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints

Sunday, September 18, 2022 – 01:00 PM EDT at Caesars Superdome

What Happened on Week 1?

Tampa Bay is yet again favored at -3 over the Saints on the road as now head coach Dennis Allen has devised pressures on Tom Brady to get him to be less accurate as a passer.

How Tampa Bay can combat that is the power running game like they just used against Dallas for 152 yards. That could work after the Saints' supposedly strong defense was gouged for 201 rush yards in clever fashion by Atlanta.

It is not hard to make the case for the Saints who did not take the Falcons seriously and back home, they will be significantly more emotionally ready.

Except for one very important playoff contest, New Orleans has had their way with Tampa Bay. The Saints are 4-0 SU and ATS the last two regular seasons versus the Bucs and three of those were outright upsets.

Key to the Outcome

The Saints' Jameis Winston did not handle the pressure from Atlanta well last week and we saw what this Tampa Bay defense did to Dallas.

Brady has 11 turnovers in the past four regular-season games versus New Orleans, who have figured out how to make him look ordinary.

Though it is a football cliché, whatever quarterback that doesn’t make mistakes will lead his team to victory. Hard to say this, but we think that will be Winston.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Sunday, September 18, 2022 - 01:00 PM EDT at TIAA Bank Field

What Happened on Week 1?

Indianapolis had a 517-299 yards edge over Houston in 70 minutes of football and couldn’t put the Texans away for a dissatisfying 20-20 tie that had to feel like a loss.

The Colts are on the division road again this week and have to be ready from the start and bring the passion or they could end up 0-1-1 after two weeks.

Jacksonville had Washington right where they wanted them up 22-14 with 11:45 left in the game and then they remembered they were the Jaguars. Thanks to defensive breakdowns and an unreliable running game, the Jags could not put the Commanders away.

Key to the Outcome

Despite losing a winnable game, Jacksonville’s young squad should feel confident. In spite of a coaching carousel, any Jaguars player that has spent five or fewer years with the team has never lost to Indianapolis at home and is 5-0 ATS.

Jacksonville has the players to pressure Matt Ryan and as long as they don’t allow Jonathan Taylor to run wild, they can stay in the contest.

The Colts’ lack of playing together has subtracted from their continuity and playing back-to-back AFC South games to start the year is hard.

Giving 4 points on the road to a division rival is tough to do against a club that has given you trouble. Nonetheless, watch for Indy to be more focused given the history and they are 10-1 ATS off a division game and 6-0 ATS after outgaining the last foe by 100 or more total yards.

Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers

Sunday, September 18, 2022 - 04:05 PM EDT at Levi's Stadium

What Happened on Week 1?

Granted, the field in Chicago was thoroughly saturated which didn’t help either team. Yet, when you have a team that has Super Bowl talent at numerous positions, but with an inexperienced quarterback that has to learn on the job by your choice, you cannot beat yourself.

San Francisco had 176 yards rushing but gave back more than half that back by committing 99 yards in penalties. Trey Lance tossed an unsightly interception to boot and the 49ers made their own bed in the loss to Chicago.

If the Niners ruined their chances then what Denver did to destroy themselves against Seattle was incredible. The Seahawks took the bend but don’t break defense to new heights.

Seattle was outgained by 180 yards, but the Broncos found a way to lose. A fitting end to Week 1.

Key to the Outcome

One could make the argument that if the Seahawks can upset Denver, they can hang with Frisco catching +8.5. But that was in Seattle on a Monday night. Sure, San Francisco’s offense looked bad, however, chances are it will be dry and Lance will be more comfortable at home and Geno Smith is not likely to play two good games.

Add in the 49ers are 23-7 ATS off an upset loss as a road favorite, winning by 13.6 PPG, and giving the points feels like less of a big deal.
