Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants

Sunday, September 18, 2022 – 01:00 PM EDT at MetLife Stadium

What Happened on Week 1?

The Giants showed the kind of grit last week that their fans have been clamoring for and now we see that the early lines show Big Blue as a mere one-point home favorite over the Carolina Panthers, a team that allowed the Browns to waltz into their stadium and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with only eight seconds remaining when Cade York drilled a 58-yard field goal through uprights for a 26-24 road win.

After that debacle, the Cats are nearly a pick’em on the road against the Giants after Saquon Barkley turned back the clock and rambled for 164 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. And guess what? Big Blue shed a 13-point deficit to defeat the Tennessee Titans, 21-20, in the Music City!

Panthers vs. Giants: Pick and Prediction

It seems to me that this is a perfect spot to grab the small number on the Giants as they will return home buoyed by a truly impressive victory while the Panthers could be deflated from letting a win slip from their hands in front of the fan friendlies.

As of this writing, Bookmaker (visit our Bookmaker Review) is doing what they are known for doing and setting a maverick line in the early wagering, installing the Giants as 2 ½ point favorites trying to attract Carolina money.

However, we will take what the others are dealing and bet New York -1 before it climbs higher later on in the week.

New England Patriots vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Sunday, September 18, 2022 - 01:00 PM EDT at Acrisure Stadium

What Happened on Week 1?

The best sportsbooks are hanging an early number on this game that is making me scratch my head.

The Steelers are at home and getting 1 ½ point despite the fact that they managed a 23-20 win over the Super Bowl runners-up from Cincinnati while the Patriots were exactly the train-wreck we thought they would be in dropping a 20-7 decision to the Dolphins after a preseason that saw chaos, confusion, and no designated offensive coordinator.

And if that’s not evidence enough that the oddsmakers have the wrong favorite, consider that New England quarterback, Mac Jones, is getting X-rays on his back after an injury he sustained against Miami. What if the sparsely used Brian Hoyer starts in his stead, would the Pats still be favored?

I realize T.J. Watt is likely out for the year after tearing his pectoral muscle in Pittsburgh’s opening week win over the Bengals but as good as he is, he isn’t as important as a starting quarterback. And even if Mac Jones does play, how mobile will he be if his back is still ailing?

Patriots vs. Steelers: Pick and Prediction

Remember, these are not necessarily best bets on the board. We are strictly talking about plucking early value and right now if we can get the Steelers getting even a slight head start at home against what looks like an abysmal Patriots squad then we are all for it.

Ultimately, this could be one of the best plays on the board as events unfold.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Los Angeles Rams

Sunday, September 18, 2022 - 04:05 PM EDT at SoFi Stadium

What Happened on Week 1?

The Rams got their heads handed to them by the high-flying Buffalo Bills in what some believe could be a Super Bowl preview. But we know that the defending champions won’t even sniff a division title if they duplicate the same lackluster performance they delivered in Week 1 when losing by 3 touchdowns to Buffalo.

Nevertheless, they are sitting pretty as of this Monday evening writing as 13 ½ point home favorites over a Falcons team that didn’t look nearly as bad as their preseason press clippings in what resulted in a 27-26 loss to the Saints.

Naturally, the Falcons melted like butter in a blast furnace in the fourth quarter which saw their 16-point lead evaporate over the final 12 minutes. But then again, what did you expect? That’s precisely what Falcons fans have become accustomed to from their hometown zeroes – er – heroes.

Falcons vs. Rams: Pick and Prediction

In this case, the Falcons don’t have to win and aren’t expected to win but it seems to me they can hang and bang with the Rams just enough to stay within the generous margins we are being given in the early going.

Yes, I am continuing to hit refresh on my browser to see if this 13 ½ point head start has turned into 14 somewhere. But what I have found is that this line is actually dropping, with Bookmaker hanging the lowest number at 11 ½ while +13 ½ is still available at Heritage.
