Week 2 of the preseason is certain to feature more starting players than last week which means we can wager with a bit more confidence.

Let’s get at it and cash our three best NFL picks for this weekend’s NFL action.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Tennessee Titans

Saturday, August 20, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Nissan Stadium

Teams' Preseason Analysis

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without Tom Brady on Saturday night as he is orbiting the planet on a rocket ship filled with tofu and quinoa while his teammates battle for roster sports.

This means second-year man Kyle Trask will likely get another long look followed by veteran Blaine Gabbert.

Trask posted impressive numbers, 25-of-33 for 258 yards and one touchdown, but that was mitigated by a lazy interception and a costly fumble that was returned for a touchdown.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans didn’t do much offensively last week in their 23-10 loss to the Ravens but rookie quarterback Malik Willis looked poised in tossing 107 yards on 6-of-11 passing with no interceptions and added a 7-yard scamper into the end zone for Tennessee’s only touchdown of the game.

In Saturday’s contest, we are likely to see more of Tennessee’s defensive starters join the fray and that should shake up the likes of Trask and Gabbert enough to where the Titans can control the pace and tempo of the game.

Buccaneers vs. Titans: Pick and Prediction

Let’s not forget that Ryan Tannehill has publicly stated it’s not his job to mentor Willis which tells me he’s feeling the heat from the young gun and will likely want to put on a show if given the opportunity on Saturday night.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Saturday, August 20, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at U.S. Bank Stadium

Teams' Preseason Analysis

San Francisco 49ers

All three San Francisco quarterbacks tossed touchdown passes last week in the team’s 28-21 victory over Green Bay. But it was the new face of the franchise, Trey Lance, who made heads spin with a 76-yard bomb to a streaking Danny Gray.

This is exactly what 49ers fans are hoping is the first of many highlight reel plays from the No. 3 overall pick from North Dakota State.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings dropped a 26-20 decision to the Raiders last week but Kellen Mond looked sharp in tossing a pair of touchdowns along with 119 yards and no picks.

Journeyman Sean Mannion was unspectacular but made no mistakes in going 8-for-12 on 79 yards through the air.

Kirk Cousins will likely see action after missing last week with Covid and that’s what I’m pinning my hopes on because he’s a big arm that can exploit defensive secondaries, especially those of the second-string variety.

49ers vs. Vikings: Pick and Prediction

The 49ers understand they are pinning their championship hopes on a D1-AA kid but the question of who his backup will be must be decided over the next two games. And if we take Niners’ coach Kyle Shanahan at his word prior to the preseason, “In my mind, right now, I’d like Trey to get in, in games one and three,” then we may not see Lance at all in this one.

The NFL odds at all of the best sportsbooks have all moved heavily on this game with Minnesota opening as a 1 ½ point favorite to where they stand now as high as -5 in some shops.

We’re getting a bad number on what appears to be the right side. Maybe this game is a pass at this number but I’ll take my chances on a double-digit win by the Vikes.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Saturday, August 20, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at TIAA Bank Field

Teams' Preseason Analysis

Jacksonville Jaguars

I’m not sure what Trevor Lawrence will ultimately be in this league but a solid offensive line is tantamount to any quarterback’s success. Unfortunately, the Jaguars never fully commit to getting a nasty group of big uglies in front of Lawrence and nothing has changed this season.

The former No. 1 overall pick in the draft got his first action last week after sitting out the first of Jacksonville’s four exhibition game slate. Lawrence went 6-of-12 for 95 yards with a 9-yard touchdown flare to Evan Engram in a 24-13 loss to the Browns.

Pittsburgh Steelers

There’s a nice little quarterback competition brewing in the Steel City between Mitch Trubisky and rookie first-rounder Kenny Pickett.

Last week Pickett tossed a pair of touchdown passes while Trubisky and veteran Mason Rudolph also had one each.

Steelers vs. Jaguars: Pick and Prediction

Pickett already looks like he is ready to be the heir apparent to Big Ben and all three QBs are fighting for the starting job. That’s enough of a preseason reason to bet on the Steelers, especially against a lackluster Jacksonville defense.
