Week 2 of the NFL exhibition season is here and some believe this is the best snapshot fans will get of the “real” teams that will line up when the regular season commences.

Let’s take a look at our three top NFL picks on Thursday and Friday as we look to add to our bankroll.

Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks

Thursday, August 18, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Lumen Field

Teams' Preseason Analysis

Chicago Bears

The Bears crawled out of a 14-0 halftime deficit and scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to capture a 19-14 victory over the Chiefs.

Trevor Siemian had a pair of touchdown passes while Justin Fields was 4-of-7 for 48 yards.

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle surrendered touchdowns to all three Steelers’ quarterbacks last week and fell 32-25 when the dust settled in Pittsburgh.

Geno Smith was 10-of-15 for 101 yards and a rushing touchdown while Drew Lock had 2 TD passes and was 11-of-15 for 102 yards.

Pick and Prediction

The Hawks were 28th last season in yards allowed and it doesn’t appear as though they have gotten any better based on last week’s performance.

Yes, it’s preseason, I get it, but I like the Bears in this spot as they were ranked 6th in yards allowed last year and the defense buckled down in the second half and should be able to handle this lackluster Seattle offense.

Predicted Score: Bears 23 - 21 Seahawks

Carolina Panthers vs. New England Patriots

Friday, August 19, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Gillette Stadium

Teams' Preseason Analysis

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have two seasoned quarterbacks trying to resurrect their respective careers in Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield. Both had solid performances in limited action last week in Carolina’s 23-21 win over Washington.

But it was Zane Gonzalez that did most of the scoring, kicking 3 field goals while Sam Darnold had one touchdown pass and Spencer Brown had a three-yard scamper into the end zone.

New England Patriots

I assume the Patriots will be trotting out the big guns this week after Mac Jones and the rest of the starting offense got last week’s game off, but with Bill Belichick, you can’t take too much for granted.

I will roll the dice and assume this will be the case and if we can see an even better performance from the offense than we did last week in New England’s 23-21 loss to the Giants then that should be all the points the Pats will need to get the job done here.

Pick and Prediction

New England had one of the stingiest defenses last year and has arguably greater depth this season. Because this is the premier game of the preseason and all systems go, I believe we will see a convincing victory by the Pats in this spot.

As an added bonus, because this total looks quite low, I am advising a bet on Over 41 in this contest.

The Patriots have a young offense with plenty of giddy-up-and-go, replete with serious competitive battles to make the starting unit. This should equate to plenty of points on the New England side against a rather anemic Panthers defensive unit.

Conversely, Carolina has two experienced quarterbacks battling for the top spot and that should spur plenty of aerial acrobatics against a young and suspect Pats’ defense. Let’s go high in this game.

Predicted Score: Panthers 24 - 29 Patriots

Houston Texans vs. Los Angeles Rams

Friday, August 19, 2022 - 10:00 PM EDT at SoFi Stadium

Teams' Preseason Analysis

Houston Texans

The Texans notched a 17-13 win over the Saints last week as Jeff Driskel led the team with a pair of touchdown passes but also had 3 interceptions.

Davis Mills was a perfect 3-for-3 in the short time he was under center and is the expected starter when the season kicks for real. Therefore, it would stand to reason he gets a longer look in this game.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are coming off of a 29-22 win over their roommates at SoFi Stadium, the Chargers, as Bryce Perkins went the entire way and was 10-of-17 for 133 yards and had 2 touchdown passes and one rushing TD.

He will likely see his time cut with an appearance by John Wolford and/or Luis Perez. Matthew Stafford is unlikely to appear as he is experiencing soreness in his throwing elbow.

Pick and Prediction

Although the preseason is meaningless, I still insist this game means more to Houston than it does to LA.

Davis Mills will want to showcase his talents against the world champs as he is the incumbent in Houston and will be trying to solidify his position. Following the NFL odds, let’s go with Houston and cash a ticket.
