The Detroit Lions have yet to win a game this season after losing to the Baltimore Ravens 19-17 in Week 3. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears have just one win under their belt and got absolutely smacked by the Cleveland Browns, 26-6. They’ll return home with hopes of bouncing back to the winning column, but Detroit is on a mission so it won’t be easy.

Below, we’ll take a look at the early NFL odds and the best sportsbook to bet with.

Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears

Sunday, October 03, 2021 – 01:00 PM EDT at Soldier Field.

The Detroit Lions enterest last week as 7-point underdogs and continue to be the underdogs for this matchup. Meanwhile, the Vikings, who were  -7 1/2 -point underdogs in Week 3, are favorites this week. According to BetOnline, Chicago is a 3-point favorite Jared Goff over Detroit with the over/under at 42.

The Matchup

Despite being big underdogs, the Lions managed to cover the spread last week. They were close to a victory, but Ravens PK Justin Tucker shocked the world and kicked an NFL-record 66-yard field goal as time expired.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff has completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 801 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions through three games this season. His top targets in TJ Hockenson and D’Andre Swift have combined for 339 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Kalif Raymond has eleven receptions.

Their ground game is averaging 105.7 yards per contest as Swift leads the way with 123 yards and one score. The defense is iffy and has allowed an average of 31.7 points and 384 yards per game. Will Harris leads the team with 20 tackles and Charles Harris has two sacks while Amani Oruwariye has one interception.

Meanwhile, the Bears’ who lost by 20, were held to just 47 total yards and made only six first downs. Starting QB Andy Dalton was out with a knee injury, so rookie QB Justin Fields made his first NFL start, which clearly didn’t go well. He completed only 6 of 20 passes, was hit 15 times, and sacked 9 times. Not to mention that Chicago gave up a total of 418 yards to the Browns.

Chicago has lost four of their last six home games. Darnell Mooney and Allen Robinson have racked up a combined 187 receiving yards and one TD while Marquise Goodwin has five receptions. David Montgomery leads the ground game with 203 yards and one touchdown.

The Bears’ defense isn’t too different from Detroit’s and has allowed 25.7 points and 350.7 yards per game. However, their defense is the strong one with Roquan Smith’s 29 tackles, Robert Quinn’s four sacks, and Angelo Blackson’s one interception.

For your NFL pick, consider the Lions may be still looking for a win, but they have kept things close. This Bears offense is definitely not the same with Fields under center, who couldn’t stay on his feet to save his life nonetheless complete more than six passes. Dalton could be back to start this week, but he’s might not play the entire game with a worrisome knee.
