Following another loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, the Atlanta Falcons (5-7) head north to face the Panthers, hoping to avoid another loss to them. Meanwhile, Carolina (5-7) will try to bounce back from Week 12’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. Which team will get back on track? Below, we’ll take a look at the early NFL odds and the best sportsbook to bet with.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers

Sunday, December 12, 2021 – 1:00 PM EST at Bank of America Stadium

The Falcons entered Week 14 as 11-point underdogs and are still the team getting the points this week. As for the Panthers, they were 1-point favorites in Week 12 and are still the favorite for this matchup. According to BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), Carolina is a 2.5-point favorite over Atlanta with the over/under at 42.5.

The Matchup

The Panthers enter Week 14 fresh off a much-needed bye after falling 33-10 to the Miami Dolphins the week prior with Cam Newton starting. Neither Newton nor P.J. Walker could find a groove as they completed a combined 10 of 31 passes along with three interceptions.

Things are hopefully changing in Carolina as they just fired their offensive coordinator Joe Brady, so that could also be refreshing for them heading into this Sunday. However, they no longer have their backfield threat in Christian McCaffrey, who landed on the injured reserve to end his season early.

The Falcons story isn’t any better after they fell 30-17 to Tom Brady and the Bucs. Matt Ryan completed 35 of 46 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns. However, he threw three interceptions to Tampa. Despite the loss, there were some promising moments like when second-year defensive end Marlon Davidson picked off Tom Brady for a touchdown. Also, No.1 wide receiver Russell Gage finally led the receiving corps with 130 yards on 11 catches.

In their last matchup against each other, the Panthers won 19-13. Even without McCaffrey, the Panthers ran the ball 47 times to rack up 203 rushing yards. They’ve since turned to a pass-heavy game. Atlanta’s inconsistent defensive was able to keep Tampa’s backfield under control last week but Brady’s passing game ate them up. So, it’s hard to tell what will happen this time. But they will have key player Cordarrelle Patterson to their benefit this time after not having him available when they hosted Carolina in Week 8.

Prediction

The Falcons’ playoff hopes are still alive if they keep on winning, but they lose this one, then they’re doomed. There were a lot of good things to come out of Week 13’s loss, but it was inevitable that they would lose to The GOAT with an offense featuring one major threat and a weak offensive line. Not to mention that the Panthers’ offense isn’t any better, especially with a major QB problem. But I trust Matt Ryan and this overall struggling offensive and defensive line to get the job done against Carolina.
