Atlanta Hawks vs. Boston Celtics
Sunday, February 13, 2022 – 01:00 PM EST at TD Garden
The Hawks (26-29 SU, 24-31 ATS) have lost three of their last four games SU and ATS, including a disappointing 136-121 home setback against the Spurs while the Celtics are giving hope back to Beantown after seven straight wins. The Celtics (32-25 SU, 28-28-1 ATS) had some new players join them. They cut three separate deals that improved their roster without sacrificing any of their core players. To sum up the personnel moves:
In: Derrick White, Daniel Theis Out: Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, Dennis Schroder, Enes Freedom, Bruno Fernando, P.J. Dozier, Bol Bol
Good job by the Boston front office, including GM Brad Stevens, as they have made Ime Udoka's job a lot easier. Udoka knows White from his days as an assistant coach with the Spurs and Theis played well during his first stint with the Celtics. Both players help the Celtics right now but White is just what the Celtics needed. His debut with the C's proved that he's a great fit for them.
White finished with 15 points, six rebounds and two assists on 6 of 12 shooting (3 of 7 from beyond the arc) in 28 minutes, had a team-high +11 and closed out the last eight minutes with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Robert Williams. Trae Young was just 6-for-15 (2-for-8 from 3-point range) for 18 points in 35 minutes against the Spurs and while he might play better on Sunday, John Collins (plus-2.1 Offensive Box Plus/Minus) is out with a foot strain, leaving the Hawks without their second option offense. The Celtics can neutralize Young and even if he goes off the Hawks will have a hard time keeping up with their inspired opponent.
Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday, February 13, 2022 – 06:30 PM EST at SoFi Stadium
The Rams boast an elite wideout in Cooper Kupp, the NFL's leader in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947) and touchdowns (16). Kupp has at least one receiving touchdown in five straight games and that tendency to score plus the attention he gets from Matthew Stafford can lead to a productive game on Sunday.
Cooper Kupp does most of his damage from the slot and he will likely be covered by Chidobe Awuzie, who has allowed 24 receptions on 30 targets there. Kupp had 11 regular season games with more than 100 receiving yards and he's been a big-time playmaker during the playoffs. He went off in the Divisional Round against the Buccaneers with nine catches for 183 receiving yards and one touchdown and then he caught 11 passes for 142 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers.
Stafford's highly-ranked pass protection will give him ample time to find him. Besides, Kupp is great after the catch since he's quick and ably follows behind his blockers and he has stepped up in every crucial moment this season.
