The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ( 11-4) stay on the road this week after crushing the Panthers in Carolina. This time, they will head further north to take on the New York Jets (4-11), who are coming off a solid victory over the head coachless Jacksonville Jaguars.

Can the Jets pull off a major upset? Below, we’ll take a look at the early NFL odds and best sportsbook to bet with.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Jets

Sunday, January 02, 2022 – 01:00 PM EST at MetLife Stadium

The Buccaneers entered Week 16 as 10.5-point favorites and are still the favored team for this matchup. As for the Jets, they were 1-point favorites over the Jaguars and are back to being the underdog this week. According to Everygame, Tampa is a 13-point favorite over New York with the over/under at 46.

The Matchup

The Buccaneers managed to bounce back from an embarrassing and shocking 9-0 Week 15 loss to the New Orleans Saints with a blowout 32-6 win over the Panthers last Sunday. They even pulled off the win without key weapons in wideouts Chris Godwin and Mike Evans and running back Leonard Fournette.

This week, they’ll have to do it without a head coach as Bruce Arians is in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19. Instead, Harold Goodwin will take over head coaching duties. Goodwin is the team's assistant head coach and run game coordinator and has play-calling experience after serving as the Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator for five seasons.

The Jets picked up a 26-21 win over the head coach-less Jaguars and will be looking to do the same against Tom Brady and the Bucs. Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson showed off his mobile and scrambled for a 52-yard rushing TD, marking his best play of the season. Three rookies currently carry the Jets––Wilson has thrown for 2,013 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 11 picks while running back Michael Carter leads the team on the ground with 566 rushing yards and 4 TD and Elijah Moore leads in the air with 538 receiving yards on 43 grabs and 5 touchdowns.

But now, the Jets will face a “different animal” in the Bucs. Even though they’re a little banged up and without Bruce Arians, they have the GOAT leading them and are en route to another postseason.

Don’t think too hard about this NFL pick. The Jets are a work in progress with nothing left to play for this season and Tom Brady is not going to let another team embarrass him before heading to the playoffs. This game should be similar to Tampa’s Week 16 win, even if the Buccaneers play their second or third-string receivers.
