The Broncos entered Week 16 as a 1-point favorite and are now the team getting the points for this contest. As for the Chargers, they were 12.5-point favorites over the Texans and still the favored to for this one. According to BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), LA is a 6.5-point favorite over Denver with the over/under at 46.
The Broncos dropped their second straight game, falling 17-13 to the Raiders last Sunday. With backup quarterback Drew Lock starting, they only racked up 158 yards of offense, but the defense brought some mojo and forced three turnovers from the Raiders. Still, the Broncos’ run defense failed to stop Vegas and allowed them to gain 160 rushing yards.
If Teddy Bridgewater doesn’t clear concussion protocol by gameday, then we could see Lock getting the start again, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, with a very slim chance of making the playoffs, it might be the best thing to start Lock even if Bridgewater is cleared so they can see if Lock’s worth holding on to.
On the Chargers’ side, they lost an easily winnable game to Houston, falling 41-29. LA’s defense had one of their worst performances of the season, which allowed third-string turned starting quarterback Davis Mills to throw for 2 touchdowns while Rex Burkhead racked up 149 yards and 2 more scores on the ground. As for LA’s QB, Justin Herbert went 27 for 35 for 336 yards and one touchdown. But he also had two interceptions.
You could blame a COVID-19 outbreak for the loss, but they won’t have that excuse for poor play this week since they’ll be getting some key starters back in the lineup including, star edge Joey Bosa, running back Austin Ekeler, wide receiver Jalen Guyton, center Corey Linsley and free safety Trey Marshall.
If the Chargers want a chance at a postseason, then this is a must-win matchup for them as they are now in the danger zone after back-to-back losses. But that’s not all, they need to carry the winning momentum into their final regular-season game against the Raiders and finish on a hot note to clinch a playoff berth.
The Broncos may have been able to come up with a win over the Chargers earlier this season, but it looks like the oddsmakers don’t like them to do that again. With their key pieces back, this is a great chance for the Chargers to get back on track. They’re the better team and have an end goal to play for––not to mention that they won’t want to embarrass themselves out of the playoffs. Take the Chargers for your NFL picks.
